Even in doing right we must be careful of our spirit lest we do right in the wrong spirit.

More than all I strive to do or not do... Lord help my purpose & the spirit in which i live my convictions be as pleasing as any of the actions.

Right. That is a cruel irony. The reasons that I left off doing these things is that I started doing them for the right reasons....that I was doing it to please God because it seemed like a better way. Not the only way. What happened over the course of the first 16 years in the UPC for me
was that I became utterly confused about this. NO ONE would call a spade a spade and say some were doing these things out of legalism or in order to be or stay saved. This really messed me up. And when I finally figured out the truth....that these things would save no one and made no one superior to another, it was such a RELIEF and also such a SHOCK that those who were teaching me supposedly in the ways of righteousness led me down a wrong path, I realized that the politics of the UPC as a pastor's wife would also require me to not call a spade a spade because even though some do these things out of living a better way much UPC teaching is legalism and/ or salvation based on standards that I realized I did not want to participate in such.

Actually, if anyone could please NOT take Aug. 10th? It's my birthday, and I would just as soon not celebrate anymore.

I am stating here that the issue is that these practices... which have no basis in scripture and have much standing in pagan tradition and ritual... are being used in peoples worship of our God... the one God... the one true and living God.

When practices initially designed to worship another God are used to worship the true God... that is what I have issue with.

Do you still see a contradiction?

If so please point it out and I will address it to the best of my ability.

It would make sense to remember his death on the day he died and the particular sacrifice for which he was the lamb slain would it not.

But... instead... let's worship on another day that usually falls at least within a month of the actual day.

Go figure.

Ok here is the post I am talking about.

The issue, to me is that this practice, whose roots is clearly in pagan instruction and not in biblical standing, has been made a part of ones worship of the true and living God.

Here you are saying "has been made a part of ones worship of the true and living God".

Of course no one is worshiping the tree... that would be ridiculous to even suggest such.

Then here you admit no one is worshipping the tree.

So the first paragraph you say it has been made a part of our worship, then the next you admit we are not worshipping the tree.

The issue is the tree is it not?

No one I know is putting up a tree in any form of worship.

Have I made it a little clearer?

I will say D4T I appreciate your walk and respect your beliefs, that is not my issue. I just don't get where folks think others that don't agree with them are worshipping a tree???

Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!

The Gregorian Calendar and the Jewish calendars are very different. The Jewish Calendar doesn't have as many days in the year as the Gregorian Calendar. Therefore the Jewish holidays will drift from events set on a Gregorian date. It's a little complex.
