McCain and Obama on Gay Marriage

The New York Times just published this article on how McCain and Obama address the subject of Gay Marriage. I thought it was interesting how they show that regarding this subject, the two of them are not too far removed from each other. You need to read the entirety of this article to get the full understanding of what's being said. Because of copyrights I can only post this EXCERPT:

As a Christian — he is a member of the United Church of Christ — Mr. Obama believes that marriage is a sacred union, a blessing from God, and one that is intended for a man and a woman exclusively, according to these supporters and Obama campaign advisers. While he does not favor laws that ban same-sex marriage, and has said he is “open to the possibility” that his views may be “misguided,” he does not support it and is not inclined to fight for it, his advisers say.

Senator John McCain also opposes same-sex marriage, but unlike Mr. Obama’s, his position is influenced by generational and cultural experiences rather than a religious conviction, McCain advisers say.

But Mr. McCain, reflecting his strongly held views on federalism, has also broken with many Republican senators and joined Mr. Obama and most Democrats to oppose amending the United States Constitution to ban same-sex marriage, arguing that the issue should be left to the states to decide.

True Mccain is to weak on the gay thing. But Sarah Palin favors a ban on Gay marriage in all the United States. If I vote Im voting for HER not particularly for him.

She doesn't care if two men live together, sleep together have the same rights as a married couple, just as long as it is not called marriage. What a Joke She believes just like Obama. When will you admit it, she is no different that her opponent on the queer subject.

Palin admitted in her debate with Biden that the tow of them believed the same way.

So are either of their parties adressing this in a truly Christian way?

Its not that she does not care. She knows theres nothing that can be done about it on a personal level.

Are you going to vote for someone who said he would leave a Church if they spoke against Gay relationships? Someone who is PUSHING VERY HARD to make Sodom acceptable and lawful to all Americans?

Did you ever consider they are ALREADY teaching it is equal to traditional marriage in the schools.

Your Children or Grandchildren are going to be taught this. I cant imagine what America will be like 5 or 10 years from now.

America is CRYING AND BEGGING for punishment from YHWH.

I agree. It's a distortion for someone to imply that Palin favors gay marriages or gay civil relationships... or that her feelings on the issue are essentially similar to Obama's.

There are many conservatives who are morally opposed to the idea of homosexual marriage, but as strict constitutionalists, they dont believe there's any way we can outlaw it . Or they feel even if we did make a law to ban it, such a law wouldnt hold up in court. That doesn't mean they "favor" gay unions by any means. They feel that even though legalized gay unions will probably eventually become the law of the land, they dont like the idea of calling it "marriage" -- the feel the term marriage should only be applied to heterosexual unions.

Obama has been a much more "gay friendly" candiate than anyone else in this race, and has overtly reached out to the homosexual community letting them know he is supportive of them. Neither McCain nor Palin have done the same.

I just find it funny that some people will come on these forums and bash Palin for supposedly having "the same policy on gay marriage as Obama"... <---(which is not even true anyway)... but you NEVER hear them bash Obama for his position on the issue!

During the Palin and Biden debate, Palin—herself—said that she and Biden agreed on gay marriage. BOTH of them said that neither Obama/Biden nor McCain/Palin favored or supported gay marriage. They even smiled at each other when they discovered that they did not have anything to debate on that issue. Maybe you did not hear their debate? Or maybe you missed her stating this? Or maybe you just could not accept that she would say such a thing? Either way, the two camps agreeing on gay marriage is why I posted this NY Times article. I just thought it was interesting that their agreement is said to have derived from two different sources; Obama’s from his Christian beliefs and McCain’s from his experiences.

As far as bashing; I hope you are not referring to me. I only included this to show what is being said about BOTH camps.

Ok got it out my system...Will still have same-sex marriage and abortion no matter who gets in!!!! Bush didn't and couldn't stop it!!!! Nothing new! Politics as usually !!
