PO, either choice means hardship for the American people.

I'm waiting for further comments. I think that if the Republicans thought we would totally crash they would have voted today. Perhaps we are being hasty. I don't know.
I know that Pelosi is trying to blame all of this on the Bush Administration. She should have been like McCain and blamed everyone of both sides.

Ron,
I'm just posting some comments and feeling my way through this. Some of the Conservative reporters are not acting alarmed.

I don't think anyone is being hasty, I just think there is an unpleasant problem that they have to deal with and thier are two options facing them-none of which is appealing politically.
I hear news reports that as time goes the American voters are getting angrier by the day.
Neither party wants to take responsibility for it.

How can there be a collapse when private companies fail? These are banks. I have checked on my banks and they are doing fine.

The Republicans haven't been afraid to walk away. McCain and Palin are not afraid to blame both parties.

Being on the outside looking in, there are commentators on radio (many fiscally conservative) who are saying that to do a bailout is "BAD" to do nothing is "REALLY BAD!"
Not trying to be a pessimist, but when Doctors are calling in the family to discuss disconnecting life support & someone pies in "he's just asleep" we have to see it for what it is.
I heard on the radio we are in a recession heading for something worse.

WAMU is the "Sixth" largest bank in the US to fail.
Not only that, but reports are there are a 100 teetering on the brink.
BTW, my banks are fine too!
