tstew, didn't you read the Sowell article. Makes a great point that Sarah is no less qualified on foreign policy than at least three out of the last four presidents.

Yes, but their overall qualifications, the scope of the states they ran, their experience before that, and the amount of time they did run their states far outweigh her resume.

I know that people here are going to have a fit when I say this (so it brings me very little joy to do so )...but Sarah Palin may actually be one of the least qualified sitting governors in light of her previous experience. She beat a hugely unpopular opponent and that no doubt helped her election...but city governance over 5,000 people would in my opinion place her among some of the least qualified of our current governors.

By comparison my governor:
Was a Captain in the Air Force
Was in the Texas Legislature for 8 years
Was Agricultural Commisioner for the State of Texas for 8 years
Was Lieutenant Governor
Then became governor only after Bush left to become President.

The facts about how she was elected say nothing about her experience. Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas, it is tough running all those trailer parks and chicken farms. Besides don't you think the fact that instead of neighboring states she had neighboring countries one of which has been less than a friend for a long time?

These are good points, Stew.

Palin is still dealing with all the same issues that any other Governor, Mayor, City Council person, PTA member, mother, etc. deals with even on a smaller scale.

She still has that experience because she must follow the law on the books to govern. She has to go the way of law and they are all reading the same book, with some variance from state to state, but basically they must follow the Constitution of the United States of America - bottom line.

I found that out with my friends in their small local with city and town governance. Some of their issues were huge, but they followed the same laws of governance as they would have to do in Austin, Houston, Dallas, etc.

Everything she has done in her life has given her the opportunity to climb the ladder and progress.

PO, I'm sorry, but you still can't compare them due to the scope. My city has almost 100 foreign consulates. Offhand, I'd be surprised if the entire State of Alaska had much more than that. The differences in complexities would be too numerous to even begin to discuss.(budget, public safety, social services, schools, hospital administration, etc)
Did you see the numbers I posted comparing the budget, etc that she oversaw even as governor to that of the City of Chicago alone. Even as governor, her experience is dwarfed by many mayors in my opinion.

As an Arkansasan, I'm used to your silly, cliche joke.

The facts of the matter are Bill Clinton did more to improve education than anyone ever has in this state. He didn't send a mandated standards improvement without increasing the funding per child. I was in grade schools during that improvement and was the benefactor of that. He improved roads by the hundreds of miles, including overpasses and interstate repairs. He dropped the sales tax on my grandmother's prescription drugs and increased her homestead exemption amount. He was instrumental in establishing the funding and land for Arkansas Children's Hospital which is recognized as one of the top in the nation, if not the best burn unit.

He worked tirelessly to improve the state's vocational schools like Westark College and Arkansas Tech and others across the state. He also chaired the National Governors association for a year.

Sara Palin is no Bill Clinton my friend and that's from a Proud Razorback who actually knows something about Bill Clinton.

remember the disaster they refer to as the Carter Administration? He tried to micrmanage everything. A good President needs to know how to surround themselves with the right people not make every decision.

Stew,
I do see your point and I have some of the same concerns. It's just that after reading about her, watching and listening to her on clips I've found, I see a quick read in her, capable and I'm not ready to dismiss her as being totally unqualified.

Anyway, I have to run, but I want to thank you, especially, as we haven't totally agreed on everything for being such a gentleman in your responses.

I also thank Mike, Ferd and Baron. Just awesome people to post with. I'm honored and respect you all!

Have a good day.
