No of course not! There is no subliminal ability to instill fear by using McCains middle name. Any fourth grader could easily see the not so subtle fear mongering that is in back of all of that!

Yes indeed the boards are filled with hysteria at the thought of a Black Man becoming president. Unfortunately the posters of such garbage ( we can say garbage cant we?) either too dishonest to acknowledge their real motives in such vitriol or honestly cant see it! One poster even has a thread implying that Obama may very well be the anti christ as the "Book of Revelation says the anti christ will be a muslim man in his forties....: yeah Revelation 51:50!
More and more I am leaning to not only voting for the man but actively campaigning for him amongst my friends.
It certainly would be refreshing to see a black man as president of our nation and cause me great personal delight at the absolute dither that thought seems to provoke in some obviously terrified people! .
This whole thread reminds me of decades ago when I was a student in an Apostolic Bible College on the West Coast NOT in Oregon, anyway, when we had elections for class president there was a very smug smug young man who felt that not only was he the ONLY real choice to be made, but conveyed the idea that it was somehow OWED him to be chosen our president. And also he had that air of some kind of innate superiority that was totally unmerited!
That really REALLY irritated me as He wasn't even involved in any of the activities of the class, the only reason he felt he should be president was because his father evidently was a wealthy contributor to the church that sponsored the college.
Evidently he had swayed the whole class to feel the same way because when the nominations were called for his was the ONLY name nominated!
All the wannabees in the class were already congratulating him as though the election was a done deal, Siste Myrick was calling "Are there any more nominations? Any More??? I looked over at that smug smirk on his face and thought "You know this just isnt right! There has to be someone in this class who is MUCH more deserving of representing us..." And then it hit me, OF COURSE!!!!! I raised my hand with another Nomination... "Yes Sister Myrick, I nominate Sheila Wayne for President!" Without missing a beat Renfrew, Mr. Smugs hanger on /gofer Blurted out "You cant DO that!!!!!" But Sister Myrick said any MORE nominations and wrote Sister Sheilas name on the black board below Mr Mans.
Finally with no more nominations we held our vote. It was a total wipeout! Mr. Man only received TWO VOTES out of the whole class room every other vote went to Sheila Wayne! But then Sister Myrick announced "Just a minute Class, I have to go to the office and check. She came back about fifteen minutes later and said "I am sorry class but Sheila cant be president, a woman cant hold that position."
I wondered was it REALLY because Sheila was a woman or was it because she was BLACK??? Or was her middle name really HUSSEIN and none of us knew it!
This type of idiocy is evey bit as dissapointing and disgusting as the out come of that sham election. And NONE of these guys has the backbone (For lack of a MUCH better word) to admit the REAL reason in back of their utter Panic at the concept of Sentaor Obamas winning the election! More and more I hope he DOES win. And BY THE WAY... Sheila if you are on this board We ALL voted for you because you REALLY WERE the best "MAN" for the "job'!

If Clarence Thomas, JT Watt's, or Michale Steel were in the race against a white democrat I would be voting for them.
It has nothing to do with race, it is about policy. However, when you cannot win on policy, play the race card. Classic socialistic democrats.
If you are naive enough to think that Obama's being black doesn't factor in to a lot of the opposition against him, then I don't know what to tell you.

For the record, I have never played the race card in any of these conversations. I do not believe that those on this forum necessarily oppose him because of his race. However, I do believe that the whole "militant Black, Jeremiah Wright" situation has hurt him on the national stage. If he were not Black with these ties to Wright and purported ties to Islam, this election would probably be over before it even began. With the difference in charisma and appeal nationally, it would be Clinton v Dole part deux.
Addidtionally I do feel like it would be hypocritical for the McCain camp to say "when you cannot win on policy, play the race card", because the impression that many are getting is that they are not trying to win on policy. This is the major criticism of the direction his campaign has taken.
If you can't win on policy, play the "Britney Spears" card ..."The One" card...

After all.... I've heard it said that THE most segregated hour in America (or 3 if you go to a UPC church) is 10:00 AM SUNDAY MORNINGS!
So ~ stixck with me here for just another second... then we'll ask the ushers to close the doors for a few more minutes...
IF that is true.. (and MY journey says it DEFINITELY IS) then what gives US any right to open our mouths to even MUTTER any knowledge of "race relations"?

Mr. I can't speak for any other individual, but I personally have never had an issue with race. I do feel like I have a lot to say about race relations and I do feel that honest conversation is a very good thing and should not be discouraged.
I currently attend a UPC church in Texas that was started by a young white pastor in a predominately black neighborhood. It has always been multi-cultural and embracing of all races...and oh yeah....that was 32 years ago, before it became as popular as it is today.
