I want to be fair to this preacher. He made many good points. The one that stuck with me is that the decisions we make will affect on children and their children. He used scriptures from Genesis and the family relations of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. Where we put our altars is important, if we put them close to the world or close to God/church.

Well if she wasn't a Christian she will think all Christians are uptight and rude! A smile and a simple "no thank you" would have been enough.

There's nothing wrong with teaching separation from the world. I love that type of message because the things of the world do creep up on us if we aren't careful. We will tend to neglect the things of God and the cares of this life choke us that we bring forth no fruit. He just was a little nitpicky about some stuff which aren't wrong in moderation.
