At best I think all you would get from him are moderate justices, and I am not so sure we wouldn't get the same from Obama. McCain in a 24 year Senate career has an 82.3% voting rating from the American Conservative Union a very conservative watch dog group. Obama's voting record is near single digits. In spite of McCain's departure with the administration over the past eight years on uncontrolled spending, a battle plan for Iraq that was flawed and proven to be so, his criticism's of a few other Bush administration policies, McCain is no liberal.

He came to the Senate under Reagan's presidency and would nominate far more conservative justices than Obama would even dream of nominating. McCain may not be the most conservative the GOP had to offer, but standing next to Barak Obama he looks like William F. Buckley, Jr.

Obama with on the child rape thing and gun control? WORDS, my friend, empty rhetoric. Obama knows as well as the rest of the Democratic party that this country leans more to the right than it does to the left. When was the last time a true liberal was elected to the White House? How about NEVER. Humphrey, McGovern, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry were all defeated with the first four KILLED in the general election because they were unashamedly liberal. The other two posed as moderates and only Carter and Clinton won their elections moving to the right. Obama knows that to agree with the SC publicly on the child rape case is a LOSER position and opposing the Second Amendment is another LOSER position if one wants to win the White House.

Obama being president would likely have very little impact on the Court because the three most likely retirees are already liberals. McCain would have a really hard time getting any really conservative nominee through the confirmation process, seeing as how Congress is controlled by democrats. He would most likely have to pick moderates for them to have a chance at confirmation. So, I agree that McCain would be the more likely of the two candidates to effect a change in the Supreme Court, but I don't think you'd get the conservative justices you want.
