Of course ... the latter act is condemnable but is their marriage not recognized by God ??? I say it is.

Are they recognized by God? I figure they are. But by not getting a marriage license they are putting a question mark on their marriage to them which are without. I am questioning it, and I am within.

Is that pleasing to God?

A couple of times it was asked why this couple didn't get a marriage license. Maybe what should be asked is what would the situation have to be for one to accept this type of marriage as a legitimate marriage... Please note the word is legitimate, not legal. It is obviously not a "legal" marriage. Could one call it an "illegal" marriage?

As soon as they have relations with another they would be committing adultery.

We have run into this a lot in Africa. It's very expensive to have a legal government sanctioned wedding, so a lot of Christians just have a ceremony performed by a minister. Several of our pastors had been married this way. Since coming into relationship with us, we have encouraged them to go ahead and legally get married, and we have helped to fund some of these. We feel it's not a good witness for them to not be "legal" even though some of them already have 4 or 5 kids.

One is not "legally" married for days after the ceremony.

Why would he not be happy with them? What edict did they not obey?

Why would you question peoples motives when they have done nothing wrong?

So you feel that God recognizes a union while being displeased at the same time?
