We have wedding rings because those who don't wear them look like they're shacking up and living together. My wife's grandmother even thought we might be swingers or in a group marriage cult because wingers and a cult down in Mississippi also didn't wear wedding bands. When clearing up her mistaken notions she said, "She just didn't know why we didn't want others to know we were married." Our wedding bands are simple gold bands, no diamonds. We wear no other jewelry. Like a watch, dog tags, or medical alert bracelet our wedding bands are "functional" representing our marriage covenant. In today's world gays want to parade their marriages...why are we wanting to hide ours? I remember having to tell people we were married back when my wife was pregnant because people thought we were just shacked up. Once I was referred to as her "partner" by nursing staff, I spoke up and said, "Ma'am, I'm her husband." She said, "Oh, sorry. I couldn't tell you were married." The Bible says...
1 Thessalonians 5:22
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
I think not wearing a wedding band puts forth an appearance of loose living. I believe that to be closer to sin than wearing a wedding band.
As for hair. My wife's hair is very uneven in the back (partly due to the uneven style she wore when she came into the church) and we've discussed possibly trimming it to even it up so she doesn't look unkept when she wears here hair down. We're not talking about trimming her hair into a "style" or even short hair, because her hair is already so long she can sit on it. We're talking about just evening it out so that it doesn't look unkept.
So please, before casting your ultracon judgments around, calling me and my family "sad"... ask for a little clarification first.
Proverbs 18:13
He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

Do you like having the internet, a place that is fully accessible to movies and clips of anything including the most vile videos that would never be found on TV?
You see nothing wrong with a woman of God looking like she's a mess when she should be representing Christ by being well kept?
This is why I left the ultraconservative wing of the movement. They always turn on you and attack you for something. Because it's all about being holier than the guy next to you. That my brother is what is so sad.

Re: Revisiting the "PANTS" Issue
Since pants were originally worn by Chinese women working the rice patties and hosiery was originally worn by men...wouldn't Eply be committing an abomination for wearing pants and not panty hose?
At any rate, I teach that women abstaining from pants is an issue of modesty and femininity for the Western culture we live in. With continued lessons on the issue I've seen very few dig in their heels, most begin wearing modest dresses and skirts.
Speaking of "heels" does your wife wear heels brother Eply? Did you know that women's heels were originally something worn in England by unwholesome women to provide their clients "access" while the woman was standing?
If you want to get down and dirty about standards...we can get there. But I think that would be counter productive. Let's make a deal...I won't judge you for letting your wife wear such an ungodly thing as lady's heels if you don't judge me and my wife for wearing a wedding band so people know we're not shacking up.
Deal?

Bro Epley
I have nothing against you sir, but I will say that your comments do not seem to engender love and/mercy (heavy matters), but despite.

No real problem exists over the use of "The Name" in everthing else done in the Church. Why then should there exist great controversy over the use of the "The Name of the Godhead" in water baptism?

Re: Revisiting the "PANTS" Issue
In shady, green pastures, so rich and so sweet,
God leads His dear children along;
Where the water’s cool flow bathes the weary one’s feet,
God leads His dear children along.
Refrain:
Some through the waters, some through the flood,
Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song,
In the night season and all the day long.
Sometimes on the mount where the sun shines so bright,
God leads His dear children along;
Sometimes in the valley, in darkest of night,
God leads His dear children along.
Though sorrows befall us and evils oppose,
God leads His dear children along;
Through grace we can conquer, defeat all our foes,
God leads His dear children along.
Away from the mire, and away from the clay,
God leads His dear children along;
Away up in glory, eternity’s day,
God leads His dear children along.
By George A. Young -1903
My late father said, "Adults do not like to be treated like children!
They will resent it".
Parents can and should correct/discipline their children early on. But
after they have reached adulthood, best leave to God to rebuke and
chasten. He knows how!
And I can feel the resentment of those who do not like for OTHER MEN
to try to correct them. We have six ADULT children who are married to their
original spouses. Our days of correcting/discipling our ADULT children
are over. If they ask for advice or opinions, we carefully/prayerfully
respond. Otherwise, we pray for them and their children. We also pray
for our children's spouses families. What a difference it has made.
I believe the church would do better if it would let the PARENTS raise
their own children. The parents would be better off to raise their OWN
children. Be responsible for what YOU birthed! Raise or train up your
children in the way they SHOULD go and when they are old (mature)
they will not depart from it. Raise them up in the fear and admonition
of the Lord. Then trust God with His part! You can't save them anyway.
In the church, just preach the Word. Sun. School teachers teach
the Word. Don't assume PARENTAL responsibility that is not yours.
That's not your place. It breeds problems!
No offence intended!
