Re: Whoa! Polygamist solution is frightening...

By the way, what happens to the baby BOYS that are born in these groups? Are they ejected from the group in their teens because of the competition they represent to the older men?
(Not unlike young bull elephants being thrown out of a heard by the older males to form their own groups.)
And doesn't this lifestyle break down when you consider that most men won't have ANY wives (or "A" wife) if a select few get them all?

Well there are other considerations... There are wars to fight and die for (something men mostly do)

then men do die younger (especially if one has multiple wives)

then there is the case of oppressing governments that tend to swoop in and take a good number of the men and incarcerate them for about 20 years...

Rumor has it that this info is true, but I don't know if I really believe that about the boys.
I wondered about that myself.
I don't know about the select few men, I think that is why they start with the girls so young, they are pretty much like brood mares.
And of course the girls and women can only have one husband. Surprising huh?

You think those women and children aren't oppressed?

Sorry that post was meant to be funny.

As to your post... I am sure there is some oppression there.

Shoot, I have neighbors that are severely oppressed and they are'nt a part of any religious movement.

Polygamy sound very complicated to me and I am glad it's against the law. But as to the dress and lifestyle in particular - nope. It is what they make it. I was raised similar to the Amish and had a very happy childhood with very few regrets.

Of course there was no rape or other crimes committed in my experience either.. so I have no comment regarding THAT aspect of this sect.

Re: Whoa! Polygamist solution is frightening...

I think the bigger picture is what is at stake here.
How far can the state intrude in our affairs?
Is there validity in these claims?
Are all people who dress or have long hair going to be guilty by association?

Remember the religion of the state is "humanism" & any who aren't on board are potential enemies.

There that's just MHO!

Yeah, I don't think their clothes look like any apostolic's in this day and age. More like Little House On The Prairie.

Well Ron, the state is required to check out claims. We of course don't know what was seen or heard when the caseworkers went into the compound. They had to have heard or seen something I think to make them take the drastic steps they took. Does anyone know how long they were there before they removed the women and children? Or if they did any interviewing at the compound?

You know Stephen I noticed the Amish people I have seen on TV seemed to be very happy and actually have good family lives. I think I saw a documentary once that showed they love God and enjoy the life they live. They work hard but they seem to have a love thy neighbor kind of spirit.
