To the short bus riders and drivers
I'm really not usually an easily offended person, but I took care of a sweet little girl who was physically and mentally challenged and rode the "short" bus to school with her. It makes me sad when I see the comments about this on the board and would appreciate it if I didn't have to. Thank you for your consideration.

I worked in the Special Education Department of a middle school. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is challenging but rewarding. I agree with you Pragmatist. I will say that I don't think anyone on AFF would intentionally speak hurtful words. I am sure things were said in jest. Many of us have people in our families who have cognitive, physical, and mental limitations.
Blessings, Rhoni

Thanks, PO.
And I agree with Rhoni that no one meant to be hurtful, but I figured no one would know it bothered me unless I addressed it.

Re: To the short bus riders and drivers
As driver of said bus, I promise you no one on board meant any harm.
If it was taken in offense, I apologize.
In retrospect, know this,
if you look at the initial thread begining to end you will see that it did not derive from physical or mental disabilities.
In fact the members of my bus are "religous nuts". People driven crazy by fanatic, liberalistic, conservative, moderate, 1 , 2, 3, 4 , and 18 step salvation.
Please understand, our disturbed mentality is in no way related or resemble what is known to you.
Thank you and God Bless

Re: To the short bus riders and drivers
But the questions remains - Will Pragmatist let us get back on the bus?

I'm sure this is true, but a LOT is said "in jest" which would be best left unsaid.
Humor is a strange animal...what is hysterically funny to me, someone else would think is stupid...it's all a matter of perspective.
I missed the posts/thread where this occurred, and have no inclination to look for it, however, as one with a couple of nephews in SE (one with Cerebral Palsy and another with Asperger's Syndrome), I agree with Prag on this...and this is a FIRST!!
Thank you to those who apologized...

I don't know,
I wish there was this much concern about peoples feelings when their own personal convictions are insulted out right and intentionally with the end line being stated as "get over it or get off the thread"
As I have said, I do apologize if anyone was offended, but there was no representation of any mental illness as we know it today.
It was religous humor, nothing more , nothing less.

I'm sure the religious humor was missed by those that were not following the thread. We certainly wouldn't want to offend anyone and so I'm glad you cleared that up Mr. Driver!
Your first statement is very profound and true! Oops, I mean the second. "I don't know" isn't exactly profound.
I do see Pragmatist's point, though, as he didn't initially understand who was riding on our bus. If everyone is good with that, I will stay on the bus. It isn't worth it if the whole thing is misunderstood.
Not to worry - we will find you something else to drive if all fails.
