Make all the excusses you want but the fact remains, a UPC preacher shouldn't watch TV period. Whether you're living for God or not is up to you not me.
Bo..Why are others decisions such a hang-up in your life??

Brother..If you can't love folks...you ain't goin to heaven I don't care how much you speak in tongues or preach..

If you can't see the venom in your post man..your problems are deeper than a preacher with a television... I got a feelin' we ain't seen the half...
Randy,
Let me first say I enjoy reading your post because you make a lot of sense on many things that you say. I also see you on a few other forums and we actually have a lot of friends in common. Maybe my mentallity is wrong but I can't change that. I happen to think that there is only one truth. If you preach it then fine, if not then I do believe that you are lost. What a pastor preaches in their church is between them and God (not me). But there is never a day that I think a trinitarian preacher will be saved. I also happen to believe that muslims will be lost (unless, they repent, are baptized in Jesus' Name, get the Holy Ghost by speaking in tongues, and live a Holy Lifestyle). I believe the same thing about every religious group. I grew up Church of God, they repent, they speak in tongues but they baptize in the titles, they are not set apart from the world, you know what, I believe they are lost. A man may get half the message right but there is no half salvation, you either make it or you don't. Heaven or Hell? There is no middle ground. As far as loving people, you may not realize it but I do love people (even liberals). If you knew me at all you would know this. I weep for the lost and I do everything I can to win them.

I do believe that I know what it takes to go to Heaven. I've talked to many Baptist that say the same thing. I pray that they are right and not me. I hope that when I get to heaven I find out that all this stuff about holiness was not needed. I hope I find out that the Holy Ghost wasn't needed. I hope I find out that it didn't matter how you were baptized or it didn't matter if you were baptized at all. I hope to see all the AFF members there (even the TV watching preachers). But the fact is this...........there is a way to get to heaven and I want to make sure I do everything possible to get there. I don't want to get to judgment and learn that I only had half the message right.

Please forgive any venom that seeped from my previous post. I'll try to refrain from future conversations with certain members.

UltraCon,

Do you believe that a man is lost if he has a television in his home and/or watches television somewhere else? Regardless of he is a minister or is affiliated or not?

Do you equate your stance on television as a biblical truth?

While I don't think TV is good for anybody I can't say that you'll be lost for watching it. If you came to our church it would be a different answer because we preach against. So yes if you were here and you had it i'd say that you were lost. I will say that I believe all UPC ministers that have and watch TV's are liars and I believe they'll have to answer for that one day. TV is the big topic but I feel the same way about all of the Articles of Faith that I signed saying I would believe in. There's a list on here somewhere, I think a UPC minister should live up to every one or simply leave the org. I hope this answers your question.

So this would be a matter of submitting to the pastor's authority, if someone was a member of your church?

Off topic. Your questions have nothing to do with the original question of this thread. If one signs an affirmation statement, he/she agrees to abide by the by-laws of the org.
I do not plan on leaving the UPC one way or the other.

The resolution was never touted as anything for what ails the org. What ails the org is division and control. We are stuck in a paradigm of thinking and every other group in history that started off with a bang got bogged down through tradition, creeds and control till they lost the fire they originally had.

Pentecost in the early 1900's was not born out of doctrine. It was born out of a hunger for a deeper experience with God and to be empowered to reach the lost. Once we got that then the groups decided to nail down the lid on doctrine but what happens often as a result is they stifled the very spirit that got us here.

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

What I hope Doesn't happen is the ultra-con wing feeling that the vote is a mandate to kick the liberals/moderates out of the organization!

The venom that we are seeing from the AFF poster, UltraCon, could be magnified as that wing feels empowered! I sincerely hope NOT!!

I hope this person is not really as venomous as his postings seem!

Enough time here they sometimes do settle down......
