Once again we've allowed a word in the KJV to dictate doctrine.
The KJV used the word increase to deal specifically what the Hebrew writer meant as what comes out of the ground .... it is not income but product.
Keep in my mind not all that is produced is net income.
NASB says:
Deut: 14:22
"You shall surely tithe all the produce from what you sow, which comes out of the field every year.
or )Jr T)Jr (t Kl-TbW(t zr)j hYc( hJdh $nh $nh
The transliterated word is:
T@buw'ah
meaning:
produce, product, revenue - product, yield, crops (of the earth usually)

Which is why it is called increase.
One plants... one waters... God gives the increase.
A wage is compensation..
As a matter of fact not only is there no scriptural evidence that anyone ever paid a tithe on their wage... there is even no evidence that anyone ever paid a tithe on their fishing... because they went out and worked to bring them.
A cow that grazed on your land and had another calf was increase given by God.
And... even in that instance... if you had an increase of 9 calves there was no tithe. It was the tenth calf that passed under the rod that was marked as the tithe.

I don't agree with Bro. Epley on this issue, or on very many other issues, come to think of it. But whoever insinuated that he doesn't love the flock doesn't hear his heart on here. He does have a true pastor's heart and I would dare say he doesn't come across nearly as harsh at home with his saints as he does on here sometimes. If you've read many of his postings over the past couple years, you would know that he's a good pastor.

This is very perceptive of you...you are, in fact, on point!
Furthermore, the purpose of the firstfruit (edible substance) was to support the priest. The firstfruit is given to priests as an offering from the Jewish community, not from the Levite who handled and managed the tithe (edible substance). The Levite received the tithe from the people, and a tenth of which went to the priests. So the priests got one-tenth of ten percent, or simply 1% of the edible tithe from the Levites and they received firstfruits (not based on a percentage) from the community....so, the firstfruit (from the community) should not be confused with the tithe (1% of total or 10% of what the Levites received).

Sherri, It must be the last days! He agreed with ME on this thread and you're defending HIM on here. What's next?

It was I who said that and it was simply in response to his allegation that I hated the ministry....just making him swallow his own silly medicine....

FWIW, Christ Church in Nashville has about 5,000+ every Sunday in church. Dan Scott mentioned in his message last Sunday that only about 350 families support the church on a regular basis! His message was about supporting the church community with your time, talent, and treasure.

I too know J since age 10 ... he loves the ministry and is not a false teacher, a false prophet ... or a hater of the man of God ... as SPECIFICALLY and harshly alluded to by the kind Elder .... he has given of his heart, time, talent and money to the Kingdom for decades.
