0, you don't live here, I do. You know nothing about this. Arpaio has been involved in a lot of shady stuff -- not all related to immigration raids. That's the least of his issues. Quite honestly, I've backed him on his raids. Those, along with his deadbeat dad's raids are the only good things he's done.
My issue with Arpaio goes back several years ago when he had two newspaper editors arrested for publishing a story about him.
Sheriff deputies showed up around 8 or 9, using unmarked, black SUVs with tinted windows and Sonoran license plates.
The editors were held until the next morning when they were released because there was no law broken and Arpaio couldn't keep them there.
The fallout from the proceeding lawsuit was the county attorney had a unanimous vote for disbarment due to a 250 page report documenting clear abuses of power. The prosecutor was fired, though somehow he wasn't disbarred and continues a law practice. Incidentally, this ex prosecutor was back in the news last year for threatening a client and put on probation by the state bar. Arpaio's chief deputy was also fired and now is a realtor.
Incredibly, Arpaio got off free, though it cost the taxpayers over $3 million from the civil suit.
In addition to this case, Arpaio also tried to indict some county supervisors and Judges for going against him. It was tossed, he was sued and lost.
That brings us to this current case, which I hope will lead to criminal contempt. Arpaio was stupid enough to have a private detective investigate the wife of the Judge presiding over the contempt trial. Arpaio claims his attorneys acted on their own and he didn't know. He knew.
The approximate amount of money taxpayers have paid in lawsuits because of Arpaio is almost $40 million.
You know absolutely nothing about Arpaio to have any kind of intelligent or knowledgeable input on why I'm against him.
