You seriously believe that everyone who prophesies is a prophet??

Re: Effective evangelists?

Who says they are not? We are kings and priests aren't we? Do they need an organization of men to make it official?

Re: Effective evangelists?

I find it odd that when the bible says may people often take it to mean every must.

"That you may prophesy.... not that you will prophesy....

It says many are called not ALL are called.

Goodness may are it is a requirement are two very different things.

Re: Effective evangelists?

Lets look at verse 5 again....

1 Corinthians 14 King James Version (KJV)

14 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

5 I would(desire) that ye all spake with tongues(unknown tongues) but rather(more desirous) that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

Paul says prophecying is preferred over unknown tongues here.(why would Paul "rather" that they prophecy, than speak in tongues, if the gift is only for a few folks...this chapter is addressed to all tongue talkers)

Re: Effective evangelists?

I find this interesting.....

Acts 19 King James Version (KJV)

19 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Re: Effective evangelists?

So, unless we DO NOT WANT to do something greater than unknown tongues, lets' allow God to use us to prophecy also!

The question was about prophets -- not kings and priests. Nor was it about organizations.

You should know the difference between a person who has the gift of prophecy and a person who is an actual prophet. I find it odd that you don't since you claim to have been around so long.

A person who utters a prophecy is given a vision or a dream for a moment for whatever reason... but that does not make them a prophet.

A prophet is someone who sees things. They have visions and dreams, but they see a lot of things that are coming. They feel the heart of God on the matter. They are sent to warn individuals, groups of people, even cities. Their main battle cry is "Repent".

Goodness, you should see the difference in the two.. We have plenty examples of prophets in the Bible. Pay close attention to Jeremiah, everything he is about, everything he went through, and the messages he delivered.

No one here has argued against prophesying. Stop bringing up straw men.
