Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to prove his Hispanic identity in an interview, with questions about the presidential candidate's favorite Cuban dish, Cuban music, and a challenge for Cruz to speak Spanish.

Halperin sounded so ignorant in this interview. Look at this portion.

Halperin closed the interview by giving Cruz a chance to "welcome" Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) into the presidential race. However, Halperin asked Cruz to speak to Sanders in Spanish.

"I'd like you to do it, if you would, en Español," Halperin said.

Cruz declined the offer.

"I'm going to stick to English but I appreciate the invitation Señor," Cruz replied.

No, this was back when he first ran in 2008, I believe. I watched the Netflix doc. The whole Romney camp and Republicans were sure he was going to win the election. The film records the campaign up to and even days after the election. They were devastated when the results started coming in.

Mark Halperin is a serious and fair-minded journalist. Today he kindly issued an apology for some silly questions he asked me in an interview. The apology was unnecessary -- no offense was taken, nor, I believe, intended -- but is certainly appreciated.

I'm proud of my Cuban heritage, my father's journey from oppression and prison in Cuba to freedom in America, and also my Irish-Italian heritage on my mother's side. Both are integral parts of who I am today.

The 2016 Republican field is shaping up to be the most diverse in history, and I look forward to a robust and substantive conversation about how we work together to turn around our current stagnation and expand opportunity for everyone to achieve the American Dream.
