Are we allowed to wear sweat shirts (the long sleeve ones)?
FOR THE RECORD SAKE: I do not wear pants, shorts, sleevless blouses and pretty much abide by the earlier teachings. My hair is long below my shoulders but I do cut it so I am not be argumentive - just wondering how we can justify one and not the other. Please I do not want anyone to start arguing or say mean and hateful things - that is not my point but just curious. I personally do not criticize women in pants, makeup - I don't have time to worry about that.
I don't know your background but these are questions that people like me(raised in UPC) have asked !! We are labeled rebellious.

The Bible states, explicitly, that a believer should not be worrying about what they will wear. Seek to not offend, and let the Spirit be your guide. If this differs from what you are being "taught," then take a look at that, imo.
Brother, I was asking the people on here who are responding to standards and believe against pants and etc on women. I failed to mention, I don't do the don'ts as I think it would be offensive to certain family members and I haven't done those things for over 50 years so why start now? I no longer attend Oneness congregtions but do go to a Spirit filled church that is much more liberal but as I said, it doesn't bother me the way people dress as long as they are decent. I live the way that I am comfortable but have no problem with others who disagree with my choice. I just love the Lord and plan on being on Heaven with Oneness, Trinity - anyone who has asked Jesus in their hearts and living for God. Thank you for your kind answer.

TRIPLE AMEN TO THAT about being rebellious. And then we are told rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. They have to justify their actions. Thank you for responding.

Here is what I have observed:

You take a normal human being ( a pastor) and make him leader over a group of people (church). You pay him a salary and give him a house. The pastor is responsible for leading and directing the church according to "the will of God". In traditional UPC churches, the pastor wants his approval for everything. Family vacations need to be approved by the pastor, your spouse needs to be approved by the pastor....the length of your skirt needs to be approved by the pastor...and etc.

It's common sense. If you give anyone that much power, it is hard to stay in the straight and narrow without abusing that power. I think it's interesting that pastors often relate standards to a business when trying to explain them. Basically, I believe the amount of power UPC churches give their pastors is harmful to the church and the pastor.

Re: Standards

Thats what is cool about the Millennial, this corruption will never end when the world finally comes to Jesus.(He alone will be the "superintendent" of the world...not pastors)

Zechariah 14:9King James Version (KJV)

9 And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.

What would your model look like? How would you set things up to keep order? I am not disagreeing that many pastors have too much unfettered power.

Start with going by the Biblical requirements on elders and then set up a church model using multiple elders. You know, kinda like the NT.

I agree. I just think, like politicians, if you are going to criticize a program, group, policy, etc., explain your plans to make it better. We need to start doing that on this forum, IMO.

Good question... one of our personal observations through the years, is that well intending men who truly desire to do the work of the Lord, are corrupted by the politics, power, and money issues that take place within the church, especially since they are at the "top". Absolute power corrupts.

Like Jason said, having multiple elders in the church would be a start. Next, all monies coming in being used to support those in the assembly, and not just one man's living would also be a game changer. That appears to be the way it was in the NT. The monies supported the widows, orphans, and people in the church who needed help. It was not used to solely support the lifestyle of one pastor. There are several things that could be done to right the ship....
