Not gonna go down that road with you, brother. A divided America would never have survived this long.

That is irrelevant to the argument as to whether or not Lincoln acted morally or legally. It is supposition to say that two large Americas would not have lasted. They probably would have shook hands and formed a continental security alliance. But again, supposition. As for Ukraine, we are so weak now militarily, morally and economically it would be suicide to try to go to war with Russia.

Ukraine can take care of itself, IMO.

Besides, it doesn't matter what we do, the Baltic States will be rejoining Russia soon anyway. The USSR is about to have a rebirth or resurrection.

It does matter what we do and those nations shouldn't be forced to give up their sovereignty.

There was a time when America wouldn't stand for something like this to happen.

You realize that if Lincoln had not been killed things there would probably not have been the issues with Reconstruction.
His death put the finishing touches to the North's desire for vengence.

Ok, trying, but I need the visual of all the US bases in the area; and from there we can proceed (to a discussion of the US' most likely response to Putin putting a base in the Bahamas or something...)

The point being that your pov might even be the popular one, here, but is at least sort of one-dimensional. Searching...

Actually I think Lincoln would have been impeached had he tried to implement his plan, had he lived. Plus the Reconstruction Act was not passed by congress until a full year after the war ended. The north was shocked to see former slaves still working for their former owners and the Southern economy rebounding. So they essentially said, "We've changed our minds. Lincoln was wrong. You are NOT members of the Union. You are conquered provinces. You are right, you are not in the Union". They then set out on 12 years of plunder and did everything in their power to drive a wedge between blacks and whites in the South. When the northern populace grew weary of this and the southern whites were re-enfranchised, the latter set out to disenfranchise the freed slaves because they viewed them as allies of their northern tormenters.

When the sovereignty of my beloved Florida is once again acknowledged, I'll maybe start worrying about Ukraine's. The States created the Union as an agent to preserve their individual sovereignty, not to eliminate or absorb it.

Re: Prayed For Putin's Death

Truly, you could not have impeached Lincoln by then with an electric impeachment machine, if you had had one; his Greenbacks had taken hold, and the economy was in a renaissance. I guess depending upon who one listens to, he was quite popular?

Sadly, Putin might actually be the only thing standing in the way of a Muslim conquest of the European continent.

I'm actually more angry at the USA for the way we forced Serbia to surrender Kosovo to the Muslims. I hope Russia rights that wrong someday.
I would rather have Putin for a President than the one we have. The Ukraine situation is not what it seems. There are plenty of Youtubes showing that the west is pushing Russia.
