See, this is the problem with many people - they don't know what the scripture really says, they only know what they've been taught, and they say, "I know its in there somewhere". But where? What does the Bible really say about the correlation between long hair and submission?
Too many people rely on tradition and teaching instead of studying the issue for themselves.
This is not against you Thad, it's just indicative of the way we were taught.
Michael, Thad won't study this out for himself (most people are like that when taught something all their lives), although I can't blame him because it has nothing to do with him, but he just only repeats what he's been told, therefore honest discussion can't be had.
However, like you pointed out, it's the way we are taught. I was taught the same way and believed it to death until I started studying it for myself and realized that the teachings were in error.

And what do you do with the women who obviously have power and glory with God who DO cut their hair?
Where would the explanation come for that?

Seriously though, I have heard an answer to your question before from those who maintain a "no cutting" position. I just can't think of it at the moment.
