My instincts are that it may be an "Ozark issue." A sensitivity to regional neologism. I have family in the Ozark region of Arkansas and Oklahoma. Several years ago this are was said to be a "hot spot" for "hate groups." Historically, the region has always been a place to "escape" the confines of the broader society.

My own forebears appear to have sought out the privacy offered there due to their miscegenistic habits when the larger society was more racist. Now that the larger society has become more "PC" - the racists are looking for a way to escape.

I remember from news accounts that there were a number of "hate groups" - groups associated with racist agendas that sprang up in around the Missouri-Oklahoma-Arkansas tri-state area back in the Clinton era. I think that there are no doubt certain phrases and words that will generate a particular image or feeling when spoken in this area that may not resonate the same way elsewhere.

Just an impression that I have. There are probably similar things in many other, if not all, regions.

You are correct in your regional description, even more so the sentiment covers further south through the Ozarks along west Arkansas border with Oklahoma. There are several towns (populations 500 to 2000) that have no minority population at all. (Amity, Bismark to name a couple)

My brother's just east of there (not going to say where... small town). Most of our people are buried up around Independence County (Sulphur Rock, etc) because that's where they landed after leaving TN during and after the Civil War. They're on the Eastern side of the Ozark Plateau. Left the Cumberland Plateau when it got too noisy there. Everyone seems to be in need of a "plateau" rather than the valleys and plains.

My brother has to be near an airport but he couldn't take living in Little Rock so he's moved down by I-40.
