Is your Mom the best cook you know?
Well, mine sure isn't!
For the first time in my life, we're spending Thanksgiving somewhere other than my folks. Not that I don't enjoy spending some time with them, but my mother simply was not blessed with the skills necessary to cook. "Bland" is the operative word. Once she actually made GOOD gravy... and spent the entire meal apologizing for putting too much salt in it!
We'll be spending the day at a HUGE get together 40 feet from our house, where my wife's cousins live. About 50+ people are coming from all over the country and we look forward to having GOOD food as well as having some laughs.
Lunch/Dinner is about 2 or 3 depending on when about 15 of them come back from bagging their "tirty pointers".

My mother is a great cook. Some things are too greasy. That is mainly the generation gap. We prefer a lighter fare. But every now and then I get a real hunger for my mother's tacos, chile verde, chile relleno's, enchiladas, arroz con pollo, refritos, etc. My vision of thanksgiving meal is much different than most But it sho nuf is gooood!!

Not really evidently like myself you are of mexican descent..and food like that sounds great ('cept for chile relleno's ) but arroz con pollo?
Now THAT is the best don't forget the refritos and home made flour tortillas- ahhhhh, heavenly food indeed!
Not for tomorrow though I'm sticking with turkey and fixins., love it, and only do this once a year, the enchiladas and tamales can wait for another day.OH tonight we got the COLD weather down here that others up north have been reporting EXCELLENT! I LOVE this kind of weather for BAKING and it is appropriate for a more festive feeling., thank you JESUS for this gift!

Yes, my mother was the best cook I knew. She made those cathead biscuits and chocolate gravy for breakfast. We had so many cakes and pies at Thanksgiving that it took her days to get them all baked. A good country cook and and fine Christian lady she was.

I grew up in SE Wisconsin, a small town named Union Grove in Racine County. It is about 15 miles west of Racine.
My Mom cooked pretty bland. We ate a lot of hamburger, eggs, or fish that we caught. We have eaten pheasant, rabbit, duck, and pigeon.
My wife was born and raised in the Cincinnati, Ohio area an is a much better cook than my mother was.
