Show Me the Money

Hypothetical Scenario:

Joe Preacher is a pastor of a 20 person congregation...and the church size has been around this same relative number for the past 15 years. Joe Preacher just doesn't seem to attract a following, not because of anything morally wrong, but simply because he is a dull speaker, has a monotone voice and really does not go into much depth in his teachings. So, most who visit, simply do not stick around. However, there is one member, Daddi Warbux, of this small congregation that earns $80 million annually. Should Daddi be tithing $8 million a year (10%) to this church and should Joe Preacher live as a millionaire as a result of this one person's tithing?

What say ye?

Yes. What's the point of your question? Is Joe Preacher complacent because he is a millionaire and lost his burden to win souls?

No, Joe is not complacent nor lost his burden...he simply does not attract a following, he has a monotone voice but there is nothing immoral in his life going on that would have people running away... he simply is a dull public speaker.

The point of the question was to get your thoughts on the matter...should the ministry be set up with salary caps or let Joe Preacher devour all the plunder?

The tithes go to the ministry. No salary caps. If Joe is the only minister/preacher in the church, then the tithes are his.

But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance Numbers 18:24

JRoc, do you even believe in giving tithes? Tithes = plunder?

Yes, I do (not necessarily limiting to 10% either)...were you hoping to categorize to marginalize with that question? If I had said "no" would that have soothed your mind...I mean, seriously, what's the point of that question, Mizpeh?

I think (my opinion) that any pastor who believes ALL the tithes belong to HIM no matter what the amount is whether it is $800 or $8M is a thief and a robber of the people. No man is worth that much. ($8M)

I believe that a pastor should have a salary with benefits just like everyone else. Now if the congregation wants to pay the pastor that much, that is different, but I don't think the pastor should do anything less than full disclosure to the people annually of where ALL the money was spent and exactly how much he makes. I have personally done that for for almost 2 decades and have NEVER had a problem.

Truth sets people free and financial truth engenders much TRUST. When things are hidden, there is usually a reason and not a good one.

I wanted to know where you were coming from, that's all.

Are you asking a sincere question or starting an argument?
