Re: National Anthem is racist
Everything is racist.
Arresting looters in Florida is racist.
The law is racist.
Round and round it goes...

Re: National Anthem is racist
This is the third verse that some are referring to when they say the National Anthem is racist. By the way, I do not agree with this criticism as this verse references the historic fact that hirelings and slaves who were able to flee their masters, did indeed join and fight for the "Colonial Marines"-- becoming fierce enemies to the country that had disrespected, mistreated, and enslaved them.
Key's racist personal views on slaves or blacks in general do not show in the writing of this song. Historically, he was a racist-- but the song that would become our anthem is not racist, but is historically accurate.
THIRD VERSE
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore,
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion
A home and a Country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash’d out their foul footstep’s pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Francis Scott Key's personal views on American slaves or American blacks in general do not show in the writing of this song. Historically, he was a racist-- but the song that would become our anthem is not racist, but is historically accurate.

Re: National Anthem is racist
How is that verse racist? Reads to me like he was disparaging the British and their Tory sycophants, and pointed out their complete defeat.
But, since it was written by a white guy, it MUST be racist.
If these lefttards keep it up, they will singlehandedly render the word "racist" completely irrelevent. Seems they are well on their way to doing that.

They already have for many people, including myself. I hear the word racist, my first instinct is to question the motive of the person who said it, not the person who's being accused. And if someone were to throw the term racist at me, I'd just laugh and walk away.
So far as I'm concerned, 'racist' is a non-word.

Re: National Anthem is racist
Here's a typical communist propaganda piece:
http://www.theroot.com/star-spangled...the-1790855893
"A few weeks later, in September of 1815, far from being a captive, Key was on a British boat begging for the release of one of his friends, a doctor named William Beanes. Key was on the boat waiting to see if the British would release his friend when he observed the bloody battle of Fort McHenry in Baltimore on Sept. 13, 1815. America lost the battle but managed to inflict heavy casualties on the British in the process. This inspired Key to write “The Star-Spangled Banner” right then and there, but no one remembers that he wrote a full third stanza decrying the former slaves who were now working for the British army:"
Note, the article repeats the 1815 dates no less than 3 times! lol FAIL.
"Jason Johnson, political editor at The Root, is a professor of political science at Morgan State’s School of Global Journalism and Communication and is a frequent guest on MSNBC, CNN, Al-Jazeera International, Fox Business News and SiriusXM Satellite Radio."
You'd think a guy like that would have the most basic facts correct about his subject matter. But facts don't matter to communists, they're all about that propaganda.
What a loser.

The professor is an embarrassment. He misses the dates, then tries to credit the Colonial Marines (ex-slaves) with winning the battle. I looked it up. There were 200 of them out of a force of 4370.
Key also converted to an anti-slavery position, later in life.
But facts do not matter to these idiots.

Re: National Anthem is racist
While I like the Star Spangled Banner, if I could chose a national anthem for the United States, it would be, America the Beautiful:
America, The Beautiful
by Katharine Lee Bates – 1913
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet,
Whose stern impassion’d stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America! God mend thine ev’ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev’ry gain divine!
O Beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam,
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

Re: National Anthem is racist
1
My country, 'tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing;
Land where my fathers died,
Land of the pilgrims' pride,
From ev'ry mountainside
Let freedom ring!
2
My native country, thee,
Land of the noble free,
Thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills,
Thy woods and templed hills;
My heart with rapture thrills,
Like that above.
3
Let music swell the breeze,
And ring from all the trees
Sweet freedom's song;
Let mortal tongues awake;
Let all that breathe partake;
Let rocks their silence break,
The sound prolong.
4
Our fathers' God to Thee,
Author of liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright,
With freedom's holy light,
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God our King.
