2 Tim 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
The apostle is making his statement clear that through the Holy Ghost can attain freedom from a traumatic past. We are given a sound mind when we put on the mind of Christ. The power of God works through us assuring us we are not alone. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.
Eccl 9:3 Yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
The natural carnal man who only wears religion as a cloak has a mind of madness.
Romans 8:5 separate the two from each other, the natural man, and the spiritual man. One has a mind which is renewed and is connected to the Holy Ghost. The other is chained to Adam, who made a free choice to disobey and live and think like a beast. When naturalists see animal traits in mankind it is because natural man who lives separately from God acts like a beast

1 Corinthians 9:27 tells us that the apostle was disciplined, and in his Christian walk trained like an athlete. Not as in human discipline, but by keeping himself under subjection to the Holy Ghost. They should seek a PROFESSIONAL counselor, armed with hookus pookus butter beans and wild okra. Yet,
Luke 18:5 has our wonderful counselor instructing us to use importunity earnestly seeking GOD for our victory over the enslavement of the devil. The sweet words of
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 assure us that we have the tools to overcome every single obstacle which would try to bring us back into the bondage of sin and death. We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus,
Romans 8:37. Religious leaders ill equipped to counsel? I must of met another set of elders in my life. I have had great words spoken into my life at times when I needed to hear them the most.
Jesus is still the answer. He was the answer 2,000 years ago and he is still the answer 2,000 years later.
The whole psychiatric movement is less than a 100 years old. From the looks of it, it is less than a band aid on a shotgun wound.
