Ted Cruz supports TPP
Yes, Ted Cruz supports Obama's "free trade" deal. Remember that giant sucking sound? Yeah, the GOP is a-gonna save us all!

Re: Ted Cruz supports TPP
It's strange to me that lately I'm siding with left-wing Democrats like Elizabeth Warren on the TPP, and Bernie Sanders and Ron Wyden on the Patriot Act reauthorization bill.
I hate that it's the Republicans who are try to shove this TPP and fast track authority through. If they wanted to show their willingness to compromise with obama, they should have chose another bill.

And most important, TPA will require the administration to post the full text of the agreement at least 60 days before completing the deal, so the American people can read it themselves.

Let's see, first there was obamacare. Then there was the FCC net neutrality, and now the TPP. All three have one thing in common, the final text wasn't released until after the first two bills passed, whereas the TPP bill is reportedly being held in a room inside the Capitol building where members of Congress may read it -- in the room -- and they are not allowed to take any notes or write anything down to take with them.
Obviously there's more at stake than just this, but this statement by Ryan and Cruz just shows how naive Congress is when it comes to believing this administration will abide by any agreement like this.

Re: Ted Cruz supports TPP
Some information you may want to consider:
China is rapidly expanding its soft power in South East Asia through the Asian infrastructure Investment Bank (AAIB). It's purpose is to orient East Asian governments toward China by making them financially dependent on Beijing. The TPP helps offset that by more highly integrating east Asian economies with the US as their market for final goods, reducing dependency on China as a market.
Senator Warren Distorts the Record on Investor-State Dispute Settlements
These claims, and some other criticisms of the TPP, have no foundation in the long history of ISDS provisions that have been in existence for more than 50 years.

The Economist says that the TPP would raise American incomes by 0.4% per year.

Regarding the environmental regulation concerns that Obama wanted to put in the TPP. The Environmental chapter of TPP is not enforceable - leaked texts from the discussion.

This Peterson Institute for International Economics paper (Box 2.1, pg 84) estimates a positive net effect of 23,000 additional jobs per year due to NAFTA partners.

If you think they are naive, then you are naive.
Every single one of them knows EXACTLY what's going on. Every single one of them is guilty of treason and is in violation of their oath. Every single one.

The Democrats have successfully blocked TPP for now with a filibuster.

By not allowing the text to be read outside of a locked room, I am glad the Democrats have stepped up.
I would only add that if Elizabeth Warren is agreeing on something against the TPP, I would have to pause and check that out.

I am understanding that one element that is being opposed is that the bill is a "living agreement, once signed, can be changed by Executive Order.

Yes, that's a big part of why it's being opposed. I guess the Democrats are looking down the road at what might happen should a Republican become President again. They don't want that kind of authority in the hands of a Republican.
