Super Bowl

Anyone watch the Super Bowl last night, whether for the game or commercials?

The game was terrible. One of the worst Super Bowl games I've watched in a long time. And the commercials weren't much better. The best part of the evening was the halftime concert with Bruno Mars.

I was impressed with a couple things:

1) Commercials, with exception of a yogurt commercial towards the end of the game with the guys from Full House, were free of the typical sexual innuendo that's usually in most SB commercials. The puppy love commercial with the dog and horse was the best one. Several were patriotic. I liked Coca Cola's "America the Beautiful" commercial, with people singing in different languages. It wasn't until a few minutes ago I learned one of the scenes from the commercial showed a gay couple. I really didn't notice when it played during the game. Apparently a lot of other people were upset that "America the Beautiful" was sung in any language other than English. 'Merica!

2) Halftime concert. In the past, it was marred with wardrobe malfunctions and female artists acting like strippers more than singers. This time Bruno Mars put on a clean and really entertaining show. Wish he could've sang a few more songs. No lip-syncing, no women dancing around on stage. It was great. I thought bringing in the Red Hot Chili Peppers at the end was odd, in fact, if you paid attention, Mars tries singing along at the beginning, then just kind of looks lost while RHCP's guitar player jerks around the stage like he's having a seizure.

Overall, it was refreshing not to be bombarded with sexual innuendo and junk.

Re: Super Bowl

We don't have nothing on our TV but METV that airs all old shows...ie...Big Valley, Emergency One, I love Lucy, Hogan's Heroes', Gilligan's Island and a few other nice CLEAN shows. This is the way we like it in our home. We are NOT sports fans anyway, other than Hockey every now and then....but we don't watch the Super Bowl and have not watched one in years because we are not into Football and bc of the commercials, Cheerleaders who cameramen love to capture crotch shots of and the halftime show....which usually consists of half naked, gyrating woman dancing whilst the *happy* cameramen love to get shots of .... anything but their face :-/ I think N David said it well also! My husband says people can see the same smut on the SB halftime show as one would see on prime time TV.....that is why we do not and have never had cable tv and we have all the other 4 channels blocked out !

Re: Super Bowl

Well, we found out after the game, from the winning QB (of course), that God is good!

There are a couple videos on YouTube of Russell Wilson and other Seahawk players giving their testimony and talking about the importance of right priorities and a relationship with God.

Right, that the team with the best defense usually wins.

Re: Super Bowl

Hey, shouldn't the NFL have a rule against getting God's help? Doesn't seem fair.

Re: Super Bowl

I didn't watch it. I contemplated going to a friends house and watching some of the rest of it but honestly by that time I realized how bad it was going to be.

I never knew what Bruno Mars looked like until I saw a brief flash at home before going about my business.

I never liked the halftime shows. I always thought the sound quality stunk and with the "fake" audience just seemed so plastic. I was also never use if they were lip synching or not and seeing the RHCP lip synching is a disappointment.

I knew the Broncos were gonna lose, just not that bad. I feel sorry for Payton. They had no running game and Payton is best at short to medium passes and in that weather, against the best Defense, I knew it would be tough.

Wow..

Should have called it the Stupor Bowl

I know Mars wasn't lip syncing, but both RHCP guitar players were unplugged completely and playing air guitars - so the lead singer was probably faking as well.

Should have just let Mars have the whole show. So much better than last years' taped, lip sync performance by Beyonce.
