Taliban Attacks Bagram Airfield; 4 Dead

I was stunned to read a few minutes ago about the Taliban attacking Bagram last night. I was stationed there from 2005 -2006 and our base sustained at least three mortar attacks, but no one was killed.

The biggest problem with Afghanistan is that we (American government) never gave that country and their issues all of the "special attention" it needs to make our efforts worth while.

Our first 8 years there, very little was ever heard in the media about Afghanistan.

Now, we want make peace with these guys-- but they still want war.

ok this is naive in the extreme; and the testimonies of many, many troops formerly or currently stationed there will bear me out. You are discussing "the graveyard of empires," after all, and I suggest to you that this country did not get this nickname for no reason; and that the fact that we are even there is a symptom of blindness.

I have no desire to defend Afghanistan, but even a little perspective paints a completely different picture.
