Dismantle the Whole Thing?

Let's just pretend that a very large number of ministers leave the org after the vote this fall. Let's say 20% either way. How do you think that will affect the org? If libs leave, will the org become even more conservative? If cons leave, will the org become liberal?

Or will things continue as they are, even after a split? Will an exodus by the most extreme fringe fix the current friction? Are we fooling ourselves here? Is the use of tv really the only major issue that divides us?

It has been said that a prominent UPC elder recently stated that it "is time to dismantle the whole thing, and start all over again". Is it?

I can't imagine that things are really that bad. Don't you think this is just a momentary blip in the history of the movement?

No, it's just symptom's of a greater need of compromise.

Compromise is a good thing.

All I can say is that I want the will of God. When the UPC ceases to fulfill a place in God's will--then it is no longer needed. Until now, it has done so--and was a GREAT instrument in the hands of God. My desire is to see that continue. But, what I desire and what God does is not always the same. Let's just wait on Him.

I'm sure the UPC will continue on as an organization however the vote on tv goes. It has survived tv debates before and it has survived the Affirmation Statement silliness. IF any leave, those who leave will think they are escaping a corrupt political machine, and those who remain will feel good about getting rid of deadwood and troublemakers. HQ will put out a spin about the organization now being bigger and stronger than ever before and it will go on.

It wouldn't hurt some people to quit being so political and actually focus on the fellowship, unity, and work of the church.

I heard a preacher one time who said that organizations are "preachers' unions" and the UPC is the "Teamsters Union" of the group.
