Do you think that, like slavery and other negative marks on the history of mankind, that the "might makes right" mentality where we can "own" a nation simply because we can overpower them militarily is moving out of our realm of acceptable behavior?

I would hope we are evolving beyond that the same way we evolved beyond owning human beings.

Do you think that we are moving to the place that, despite the ever present desire to rule over others etc, it is becoming socially unacceptable to the point that this will be harder and harder to "sell" to the masses?

I don't accept your premise. In the present day and age the only ones subscribing to your premise are third world nations fighting each other. The most recent real "power" to act in that manner was Iraq when it took over Kuwaitt and that was almost 20 years ago.

Colonialism is dead and has been for a long time.

I believe you are confusing "owning a nation" with a military action like the war in Iraq where we are protecting our interests by causing a regime change.

We are not "ruling" Iraq. We are not confiscating their wealth or natural resources,etc.
