Beer License for Church

Our local Catholic Church just got their beer license! They want to be able to keep a stash of it for their fundraisers.
Sorry.....just struck me as funny.

My uncle always used to say: "Give me a six pack and a Bible and I'll tell them folks how it is"

Re: Beer License for Church

LOL! I remember knowing our local Catholic Church had a beer license because my father helped at all the church picnics - which had kegs, bands and dancing. Once there was a fist fight and my father, being one of the bouncers, had to close the event down and send everyone home.

After his funeral we were in the fellowship hall. They call it something else, but I can't recall - maybe a "rectory".

Anyway, a sign on the door exiting the building said, "Beer must remain on premises."

My daughter turned to my husband and asked, "What does that mean?"

He said, "It means you can drink at church, but don't take it home with you."

Now, I like that one.
I too was raised catholic and attended those picnics as a child. I remember one guy who got beat up and they dumped him in the sulfur creek out behind the picnic grounds.
What a deal!

Fish Frys are really big every spring during Lent AND once again it's Lent
Although many churches use these for fundraising, most are Catholic .
The beverages are extra and usually include beer...... (it IS funny)

We've been to many of them, since I love fried fish!

One of our local Catholic Hospitals owns the nearest liquor store. In the hospital, the nuns private dining room serves booze. They have to call nurses aids with wheel chairs to take nuns back to their convent. My pastor says there are 400,000 alcoholic priests in the world. The few i have known were enthusiastic drinkers.

Will they be serving Westvleteren 12? (Said to be the best beer in the world, produced by Trappist monks in Belgium. )

Re: Beer License for Church

I have heard of priests who so drunk before the wedding reception that they almost forgot and then nearly could not pray over the food. It is funny until you realise that it is actually besmirching the name of our precious Lord, and bringing a reproach upon Christianity.

Re: Beer License for Church

I was raised Catholic. We had bazaars at church where we floated the kegs. I do not remember any fights or anyone getting plastered but there was drinking and dancing.
Don and I went by the local Baptist 'Cowboy Church' a while back to meet someone about a farm transaction. They were having a dance in the sanctuary. They had all the chairs pulled around the walls and were close up boot scooting... plenty of girls in short shorts and super tight jeans too. I remember when Don and I got married in the Baptist church. We volunteered to mow the grass and were told in no uncertain terms that there would be no short pants on the church grounds... for him or for me

Recently our other, more traditional Baptist church had a bikini car wash.

Guess times are a'changin'
