How can twitter be used for a church?
I understand the role Facebook has in communicating whats going on in a church.
But other than folks bragging on Twitter and discussing what they had for lunch because its a life changing thing to everyone else, I am trying to figure out why its a strategic plus for a church to do it.
Maybe I am not seeing something, please advise if I am not seeing the bigger picture on what Twitter does.

Sis. Ruby just shouted so loud, all her hair came tumbling down. Hallelujah! @brosteven
Bro. Barnes is dancing in the spirit and his false teeth went flying into the baptismal tank! @siscaitlyn
Just a couple of ideas off the top of my head.

I'm scratching my head on this one too. I can't think of anything that wouldn't already be communicated via email or web site.
I know of businesses that are using Twitter to advertise sales and specials.

I did some research on it. Really the only use I can think of is to use for Church Announcements that link back to a Facebook page in its embedded links.
Folks are channeling (if thats the right word) Twitter feeds directly into their newer type cell phones.
Any other ideas?

Here is the blog page for The Village. They have their twitter links on the side. I know that from their facebook page I get lots of updates about new messages and stuff.

That's all I could see it being used for - - announcements and prayer requests.

Tweet reminders of upcoming services/events and short statements about special things that have happened. You can also tweet uplifting thoughts or daily quotes or something. You have to keep it light, though, because the whole concept of twitter is that it's short, sweet and to the point. I stopped following one preacher because I was getting 10-12 tweets a day just from him. It was way overboard.
It's just a way to stay in contact with people who DO communicate this way.
How is it any different than fb statuses?
I guess I just don't see a good reason NOT to do it. If you're going to connect with a handful of people using twitter and you might not be able to grab their attention elsewhere, then why not?

If your church has weekly happenings, it could be a great way for people to stay up on things, sister so and so went to the hospital, please pray. Bro so and so got a new job, please praise the Lord, this Sunday is potluck, please bring food. etc
