Alyssa Thomas, 6, was traveling with her parents when a ticket agent notified the family she was on the list of restricted fliers.
When the family tried to clear up the issue with Homeland Security, they received a letter notifying them that it could not be changed.
“The watch lists are an important layer of security to prevent individuals with known or suspected ties to terrorism from flying,” a TSA spokesman told Fox8.com. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/06/26...est=latestnews

It's incompetence to put her on the list in the first place....but to not remove her once you see the obvious mistake? Man there isn't even a word for how stupid that is

Homeland Security

I doubt the little girl is the same individual as the one on the list. They don't say anything about the "real" people on the list so it's almost impossible to identify who they're really looking for. It's just a list of names. If you share the same name as someone on the list - be prepared for a longer wait.

Good point. The article never actually says she wasn't allowed to fly.

I work in Aviation Security. There is obviously someone with the same name that is connected to terrorism in some way. The TSA cannot remove that name from the list. However, typically they can verify a person's identity with proper documentation and procedures.
As for those bashing Homeland Security... if there wasn't a list or anything being done you'd complain anyway. Yes, it's a hastle. But I think your hastle is nothing compared to the hell so many experienced in the Twin Towers on 9/11. The next time you feel "inconvenienced"... think about those who lost their lives. You're not on a battle field fighting for our country... but maybe you can contribute by being delayed now and then. It's such a small price to pay. Sadly, too many Americans say they have the guts to fight for our country... but they whine like children if delayed in an airport. Blows my mind how pathetic we can get. I suggest you find video on 9/11 and watch it over and over and over. The TSA breakroom where I work has pictures of the towers going down on the board and the inside of the door.
We're doing ALL in our power never to allow that to happen again. You'd think you'd at least acknowledge that and tolerate a delay if there is reason to double check your identity.
