What's interesting to me is that the rain forest in these areas didn't exist just 700 years ago. The "lines" and layouts visible from the air extend for miles in some cases.
Now, I don't want to go on record as encouraging wanton rain forest destruction; but the fact that the rain forest is a relative newcomer in some locales should be included in any discussion on climate change and the speculated effects of human caused deforestation. IMHO.
Other than that it is pretty cool. You never know what will turn up when you go digging around.
