Our 2009 New Years Eve Hike

Continuing our tradition we did some mounting hiking/climbing on New Years Eve.

This time our destination was the Flat Iron on Superstition Mountain.

Here is is ahead of me. We're about 3/4 of the way there (from the bottom) at this point.

Getting a BIT closer.

Gail

View from the top!

My wife setting up the camera for that last shot.

Another view of Gail overlooking the cities of Apache Junction and Mesa.

Re: Our 2009 New Years Eve Hike

The hike down was quite enjoyable. And nerve wracking.

The exact half way point, elevation wise. On my way down. The picture does no justice to the scale of "the basin" as it is called. It is smooth and about a 45 degree angle. Walking down it is MUCH harder then walking up.

The old "hold the camera out at arms length and take a picture trick" -as said by Don Adams.

As we were getting back to the car, it was getting quite dark.

It was amazing. I always say that the pictures simply do not do it justice as far as the height and scales go.

Incredible photos Randy, and I'm sure they're far from doing real justice.
I got to go muntain climbing in Colorado about 15 yr.'s ago, it was fantastic with amazing scenery. One of these days I really hope to go again!

Re: Our 2009 New Years Eve Hike

The Day After: I am unbelievably sore! Not as bad as the day after we hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back, but still pretty bad.

30 minutes on the treadmill three times a week and....... Ya right.
