Is this hypocrisy??

Is it hypocritical to not have TV in the home but watch it at hotels or work?

Does it confuse kids when you let them watch it at hotels or family members house?

I don't think it's hypocritical necessarily. Depends on why you don't think you should have a television.

You can teach the children and explain to them why you don't have one in your home but why it's okay to watch Martha Stewart at somebody's home where there is a television. If you teach them using good sound reason they'll be okay.

Depends on your reasons.

We don't let our kids watch tv during the summer at all, but if they go to a friend's house, the occasional tv or video is okay.

(My theory being that summertime is playtime--not veg-out-on-the-couch time)

I know folks that don't have a tv in their home that don't really see anything wrong with watching it necessarily, except that its a big time-waster.

*shrug*

But if you preach that watching tv is a sin? Or even that having one in your home is a sin? Then yes, its hypocritical.

This was my thinking!

ROFL!!!!!

It tickles me a bit that people throw shirts or towels over tvs, or turn them away from their bed...like they can't resist watching it if they don't?

I think its more for the benefit of other people...maybe? To let all who visit the hotel room (how many could that be, really????) that they aren't watching the tv!

I agree with Felicity. I don't think it's hypocritical. Someone may choose not to have a TV in their home for several reasons - Just because there isn't a TV in the home doesn't mean the individual sees a TV as wrong. Life is busy - some may find a better use for their time (outdoor activities, work, volunteering in the community). Even so, if they're at a hotel and have time to waste, there isn't anything 'wrong' with watching TV. Personally, having a TV would be unnecessary expense. I don't have much time on my hands as it is.

I think it would confuse children the most if it was labelled as a sin or wrong - if it's just a preference - like Felicity said, I think they'll be fine.
