Poor Little Flash....

Today I left work after grooming 3 dogs and a cat. One German shepherd, one golden retriever, and a yorkie. The cat was a persian with LOTS of hair. Anyway, I finally got them done at 3:00 left and went to the grocery store. Walked in the door with my cart and my phone rang...

You know that tone in someone's voice that says this is not good, something's wrong, well, that was the tone my husband had when he said my name. "Sarilda.....(long pause......) Flash (my 6 month old basset hound who just got neutered Wed) has been run over. (another long pause.......)He's not dead he just can't use his back legs." I left my cart, had enough sense to take my purse with me and ran back to the van, crying of course. He said he would bring him in and got off the phone.

I almost croaked. Went back to work and told them he had gotten run over and they turned on the xray machine and got everything ready....and we had to wait for 40 minutes. That was so totally nerve racking.

Anyways, poor ittle Flash has a broken leg and a broken pelvis. Actually, his femoral head is broken off of his "knee" and has to be removed. We are doing surgery on Tuesday to give him time to get recup a little from the surgery on Wed. My boss said he wanted him stable.

Poor little Flash is at the vet's office waiting to be fixed. He never yelped or tried to bite even when they xrayed him. He would wag his tail at me when I talked to him, but after they xrayed him, he just kinda layed his head on my arm and hand.

Pray for Flash and his Moma... gonna be a rough weekend for both of us.

( and don't you guys laugh at me either!!!)

I am not laughing, but what will his quality of life be? Will he have use of his leg?

His little body will form a "knee joint" on it's own. It will sort of heal itself on the leg and the pelvis.

His quality of life will be good. He'll be able to play and run. It will just take a while to heal.

My husband didn't want to do surgery, because it is expensive to do that kind of surgery, so when he left to go to the boys, Doc came in and told Meredith to have a surgery pack ready for Tuesday, and patted me on the back (wrong thing for him to do, I don't do sympathy very well, and started crying again) He said, "Were not gonna put this puppy down, don't worry about it, I'll do surgery and he will be fine." He'll be able to play and do all the things he does now and his quality of life won't suffer at all."

So that made me feel a little better.

My poor husband feels so bad, he backed over him. ( He was under the truck evidentally trying to find shade, I guess. ) My husband was sick. This is MY puppy. I've had 3, the last one was run over by my mom, and the first one was either eaten by coyotes or stolen by the air conditioner man... Anyway, John's feeling kinda bad. The girls at work told me to milk it and make him feel really bad all weekend. I told them I don't do that cause I don't like to be made to feel that way...That's just not right.

Awww. From one animal lover to another, I'm so sorry about your dog. I hope everything goes well for him.

I know how traumatic it can be when a pet is injured. FWIW. I don't think it's funny that you asked for prayer, it won't be the first time I've prayed for a pet and probably won't be the last. ( we have African grey parrots, a dog, and 4 cats)

How fortunate that you have an understanding vet.

I work for him and he really is a good guy. If my husband would have said no on the surgery, David would have had us sign Flash over to him and did the surgery anyway. He's really tender hearted where animals are concerned. He's a really good guy.

Re: Poor Little Flash....

I'm not laughing either, I know how you feel. I should have my 14 year old Poodle put to sleep. He is blind, bad breath weak hips and can't keep food down and is thirsty all the time. I am in MO. and he is in Ca. with my daughter. I can't even kill spiders and mice and something like this is rough on me.

My last Poodle rode with me on the job and slept on the foot of my bed for six years, we were never apart. When she died of a heart attack I was in my PJ's. I picked her up, got in the car and took off down I-5 at 10pm at night, taking our last ride together. I wondered later what would have happened if the CHP had stopped me. Driving down the freeway in my PJ's, crying, with a dead dog on my lap and no drivers license in my possession. It would probably be either the jail or the funny farm.

I'm not in the league of some re pets but I remember praying for our cat. It was my brother's cat and she had been spayed and the incision just would not heal. I can't remember the time frame but it was out of the norm.

I was probably in JR HI but I prayed for her and in a few days she was fine.

Hey, let me tell ya, I believe in praying for animals. God created them too. One time my husband ran over colton's puppy, ran over his HEAD. It was flat and blood and all that. He took him out and threw him over the fence so that the other dogs wouldn't mess with him. That morning at church they sang a song "The spirit of resurrection" and John just said under his breath, "God, if you'd raised the puppy up for that baby, I'd sure appreciate it." Went on playing the guitar and preached and didn't think anything else about it. We went to eat and came home. I was in the bedroom getting ready to take a nap when all of a sudden John was by the bed and said, "Honey, put your glasses on, and look up here," well I did and I was looking at colton's puppy, bright eyed and bushy tailed, waggin his tail.

that puppy was DEAD. I believe with all my heart that God raised that puppy up and totally healed him.

Also, when I was pregnant with Colton, we had a bluetick female and she had 10 puppies. She was NOT a good mother. She was too much of a hunter and didn't want to be tied down. Anyway, one March day, it rained and rained and it was colder than blue blazes, some of those puppies got out of the dog box she was in and they like to have froze to death by the time John found them. Long story short, we brough her and the puppies in and I sat in the floor, big fat and pregnant, and put those puppies that were so stiff to the point that you could hold them by the tail and would just be staighter than a board into warm water and towled them off and rubbed them down really good and cried and prayed over every one of those puppies. NOT ONE OF THEM DIED!!!!!

Tell me God doesn't answer prayer!!!!
