AMC Report Wednesday Night April 11
I just arrived home from Wednesday night at the AMC Conference at the Gaylord Hotel Complex in Nashville after a run through the drive in windows of McDonalds for one of the worst hamburgers I have ever eaten. Once again I am reminded why I do not eat at McDonalds except for Breakfast or the new Chicken Wrap.
First of all events at work conspired to almost make me miss tonight. Determined to go I rushed hom and changed clothes, stole the wifes Lincoln, and headed to Nashville.
My first impression was that Wholehearted really would have felt at home.
Bishop1 had kindly given me a description of what he hand his wife would be wearing and told me they would save me a seat.
I arrived about 7:35 pm. After some esteemed preacher I don't know addressed the crowd with some short remarks a preachers wife who I don't know sang two songs. She had a very good voice and the music was good.
Then the preacher for the night was introduced. He is Danny Perdew from Greeley CO. he played the guitar and sang two or three songs before preaching. He has a beautiful voice and I really enjoyed the songs he sang. I don't know if he has a music CD out but if he does and it is anywhere as good as he was live I would buy it in a flash.
The first 35-40 minutes of his sermon could have been preached at any Pentecostal church or even Christ Church Nashville (minus the screaming).
Some very good principles for preachers taken mostly from some of Paul's epistles and also from Matthew Chapter 10 where Jesus is talking to his disciples.
Then about 40 minutes into it the ultra con application of the principles set forth in the first part of the sermon burst forth starting with the typical denunciation of makeup, powder, dyed hair, wigs, jewelry, eye shadow, etc.
Sometime after this I noticed Bishop1 writing something on the back of a business card. He nudged me and showed me he had written 1:22 and then 1:45. He leaned over and whispered that so far the preacher had been preaching for an hour and twenty two minutes and had to get to one hour forty five to at least match the night before! Boy was I glad for padded chairs.
The gist of the sermon was that preachers have a high calling unto God and not man. That they should strive to please God and not man. All good ideas.
The application was that you don't compromise to make people happy, keep money people in your church, keep your wife happy, etc, etc.
Toward the end (which was pushing right at almost 2 hours preaching) he got into the specifics as he saw them and handles them in his church.
* No one in his church 18 or younger can have cell phones
* No one in his church has the internet except for one guy who has to do his
work on it as a systems manager.
He came down very hard on the internet. Talked about how it has been universally accepted in the Apostolic movement with no ban like TV.
He said do what you want but at the very least if you are going to let your people be on the internet you should give them a lot of instructions about using it.
There is a lot more but I just found out I have to get back in the car and drive five miles to take the car to my daughter to pick up my son at the airport at 12:30 am this morning.
More tomorrow!
Meeting Bishop1 and his wife was a treat. He was a true gentleman and a lot of fun to sit with.
Oh, the preacher made inuendo's about certain people with clever sayings.
Here is one "People say oh you are a bull in a china closet, well I would rather be a bull in a china closet that a velvet tongued steer in ballet slippers"

In other words, there were no real surprises for you.
(Wait until they realize you sneaked that video camera in and are going to post the preaching on YouTube. )

rrford,
You pretty much summed it up. No video though as Bishop1 made me assume the position and patted me down for contraband.*
*Contraband at an ultra con meeting includes video cameras and any translations of the bible other than the KJV

At the end of service the speaker asked for young preachers / pastors who were battling things in their towns, ministries, etc to come down to be prayed for by the committee of elders.
While this was going on I left since it was about 10:20 pm and the walk to the parking lot there is a journey all in itself.
Because I left before service was completely over I did not get to seek out Elders Epely or Groce and say hello nor did I get to have Sister Alvear pointed out to me to get to meet her as I had wished.

What!?!?!? No spitting?
I bet a few of them feel so let down with poor Bro. Perdew.
For what it's worth, I'm proud of him for restraining himself from the whole spitting thing.

The disparaging, unnecessary words that hijacked an entire thread.
I was not in Denver in 1999, so I will make no comment.
I was in Nashville 2007 for AMC, on this I will comment: Each service and speaker was tremendous, annointed of God.
However, if preaching were to be judged by the length and intensity of the altar service, Wednesday night was an A++. CC1 was not there to report that part of the story, so his reporting and analysis is lacking.
The road from Nashville to home will not follow a

What is lacking? CC1 only reported on the night that he attended.

My post was regarding the altar service, which he did not stay for.
