Obama to reverse abortion policy
It has started! Liberalism at it's best.
For those of you who voted for Obama, I hope you will be as enthused about praying for all of the innocent babies that will be murdered using my tax dollar as you did defending this man who is now sadly our president.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090123/...a_abortion_ban
WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama plans to sign an executive order ending the ban on federal funds for international groups that promote or perform abortions, officials told The Associated Press on Friday.
The move, long expected in the Democratic president's first week in office, will be welcomed by liberals and criticized by abortion rights foes.
The policy bans U.S. taxpayer money, usually in the form of U.S. Agency for International Development funds, from going to international family planning groups that either offer abortions or provide information, counseling or referrals about abortion. It is also known as the "global gag rule," because it prohibits taxpayer funding for groups that even talk about abortion if there is an unplanned pregnancy.

Re: Obama to reverse abortion policy
Right VB. Those who argue that more children will not be killed under Obama need to say that to the UN global population control group who is rejoicing in the millions of $ in new funds.
Killing babies is their GOAL - to make the earth a better place of course.

The way I see it… this is conservatism at its worst.
First, there’s some misinformation in your insinuation. These groups don’t just perform abortions. Many of these groups provide a number of essential medical services internationally in very poor regions of the world. Sadly, abortions or abortion referrals are one of the services they offer. We all are deeply saddened at that and no doubt we all deplore unnecessary abortions. However, we cannot loose sight of the fact that there is also much good that is done in the process.
Second, while you certainly say that you deplore abortion, you’re using the tragedy as political fodder. Obama isn’t forcing women to have abortions. Individual women choose to have abortions regardless as to if it’s legal or not. Obama is merely putting the choice and moral responsibility into the hands of individual women. That’s where we come in. We have to teach the value of life. What’s interesting is that neither Clinton nor Obama have forced a single woman to have an abortion. Yet it seems like people blame them for the issue. This is where the REAL motivation is revealed. It’s all for political gain, it has nothing to do with morality or the value of life. If it did the church would vehemently condemn WOMEN who procure abortions not target politicians.
The way I see it, this issue is very complex and beyond the scope of government’s ability to properly address it. The issue of abortion should be addressed through churches, civic groups, adoption providers, and other private organizations. The government has historically proven to be entirely incapable of properly addressing abortion. Since government shifts and fluctuates, the issue will too. The only sure fire resolution will be private groups addressing the issue with time and resources 24/7 from now until the Lord returns.
Also consider this, Belgium has the lowest abortion rate on earth per ever 1000 pregnancies… and abortion’s perfectly legal in Belgium. We can address this without wrangling in the courts and shifting policies every administration.

So it's okay as long as other health care is included in the package?

Sadly many of these agencies provide vital support in other areas. Cutting funding to them based on this one service neutralizes what good they could do. It's an issue of give and take. It's like war, there are casualties yes, but ultimately the outcome may prove to be far better than if we neglected the funding of those vital services.
Besides, women who want abortions will get abortions rather they are legal or funded or what. If we want to make a REAL impact we need to do more than cut funding and vote Republican. We need to address the issues that cause a woman to believe she needs an abortion. Typically this is rooted in poverty and abuse.

I'd be curious to know the actual stats on poor verses nonpoor women getting abortions. Seems just by appearance I see alot of poor women with alot of babies.

We can look up statistics from the CDC and the Alan Guttmacher Institute. A disporportionate number of women choosing abortion do so based on economic hardship. They don't just choose to abort because they want to abort. Most women fear they can't afford a child or are in abusive situations. You want to impact the number of abortions in our country, HELP POOR AND ABUSED WOMEN.
