Daniel Fast
Hey all!
My family and I are gearing up for a 40 day Daniel Fast for the election and some direction in our lives as a family.
http://danielfast.wordpress.com/daniel-fast-food-list/
Basically its eating only fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc (spices are ok if they are natural). No meat, dairy, animal products, processed foods, fried foods, chemicals, etc. Cheese and Caffeine will probably be my biggest problems...
I have never done this before, and while I feel like I have studied this out, and have found a couple of really great websites (like the one listed above), I was wondering if any of my AFF family has done this, and if there are any heads ups? I imagine that my caffeine addiction will give me the most trouble, but are there any other things to look out for?

Re: Daniel Fast
Another question,
I have done 3 day water only fasts, and i know that you need to ease off of them... Do you have to do the same thing with a Daniel Fast?

I would suggest easing back into eating meats and fatty foods.
Too much too quick could have unpleasant results.

Re: Daniel Fast
We do "Daniel Fasts" in our church. We are encouraged to fast things like TV and Internet. Giving up secular reading for bible reading. And fasting foods from sunup till sundown.
This is a bit differnet than what you are refering to I'm sure.

Re: Daniel Fast
One piece of advice that I got today was to pack a HUGe lunch, because the foods that you will be eating are digested very quickly and you will become hungry faster... interesting

Re: Daniel Fast
Your body may start going thru a detox process and you may feel physically sick for a few days, (with a caffine headache to go along with it.) BUT--after that you will start feeling great and probably lose weight along with it. You may even find that after your time of fasting that you aren't that interested in eating junk food or processed food anymore or won't even want a soda!
I have never done the Daniel fast but have done a diet that is similar called the Hallalujah Diet. On that diet everything's organic- no canned goods. Total Vegan.
The Daniel fast will be good for you not only spiritually but also physically. Many Blessings to your family during this quest!

Re: Daniel Fast
I was thinking the same thing. You'll lose weight in a healthy way if you complete this.
Drink plenty of water to help offset the fake hunger cravings you'll get.
Apples can be really filling. Will you allow yourself to eat oatmeal, or at least oats on this fast? How about soy milk?
Be careful to not use bread or anything else to help "ease" your fast. The whole purpose of a fast is affliction, right?
A fast for me would be to give up bread for forty days-- that would definitely cause me to "suffer".

Re: Daniel Fast
One more thing, don't know if you are planning on taking a vitamin suppliment--the only vitamin you will not get naturally on this type diet is D-12 which we now only get from meat. (another way to get it is from not washing vegetables before eating them-that's another story) anyway, I take vit D-12 because I don't eat a lot of meat or drink milk. (I drink rice milk sometimes.) Vit D-12 is important and helps to raise your energy levels.
About Soy products, I personally stay away from them because I have read some articles that said soy has estrogen in it.
