Network TV against Marriage

Marriage gets little respect on network TV shows that instead revel in the pleasures of extramarital and even kinky sex, according to a study released Tuesday.

The study by the Parents Television Council includes a strongly worded condemnation of prime-time TV, contending it "seems to be actively seeking to undermine marriage by consistently painting it in a negative light." Even more troubling, according to the watchdog group, is what it characterized as TV's recent obsession with what it termed "outre" or bizarre behavior, including partner swapping and pedophilia.

As for references to pornography, sex toys and "kinky" behavior, those are now common on TV, the report said. Visual references to practices such as voyeurism and sadomasochistic sex outnumbered married-sex references by a ratio approaching 3 to 1.

The effect on young viewers is dire, the Parents Television Council contends.

Behavior that once was seen as "fringe, immoral or socially destructive have been given the imprimatur of acceptability by the television industry" and children are absorbing or even imitating it, the report contends.

Re: Network TV against Marriage

This is so true and now the agenda is to 'normalize' transvestitism. Every network as well as Lifetime is on the bandwagon to make men who feel like they are women, as well as women who feel they are trapped in a man's body just another 'normal/everyday' occurrence. These are mental illnesses, like homeosexuality, that they are trying to get taken out of the DSM-IV and 'normalized'. We are living in dangerous times.

I have noticed that rarely does TV portray sex in the confines of marriage any more.

Many shows very premise involves extra marital sex or children out of wedlock.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Yeah, I don't watch much TV any more. Most of it is entirely too predictable and boring. Kinda reminds me of church in that regard.

I thought you, of all people, knew better than to suggest here on AFF that TV might be a bad influence. I still remember the merry-go-round ride that was the debate on TV here in May 2007.

Sometimes I wonder if a Christian's resistance to getting rid of their TV is inversely proportional to the age of their set.

Who knows? This might cause some people out there to rethink their choice to pump this sewage into their living rooms, and into their children's developing minds. Perverts and Charismatics will probably not be among them. Nevertheless, I'll go ahead and say it again:

The people responsble for most television programming have an agenda to undermine Christianity-based morality and the traditional family. They know what sells and they know how utilize suggestion and peer group psychology. They don't care if you're set in your ways, or have proper self-control, because they are after the hearts and minds of your children.

Exposure to the common objectionable themes on television, i.e. violence, language, immorality, has been proven to have a detrimental psychological impact on people. The younger they are, the deeper and less-well-understood the impact.

Television programming is predominantly evil, and Christians should avoid it.
