Beware Charismatic Men Who Preach 'Change'

Letters To The Editor

Editor, Times-Dispatch Richmond, VA.:
Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day and on July 4 I celebrate America's. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.
On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba and a few months later I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.
I've thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.
When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said "Praise the Lord." And when the young leader said, "I will be for change and I'll bring you change," everyone yelled, "Viva Fidel!"
But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner's guns went silent the people's guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I'm back to the beginning of my story.
Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?

Would we?

Manuel Alvarez Jr. Sandy Hook.

Ah, yes. A new spin for the "Obama is secretively evil" crowd. Obama will be to the USA what Castro was to Cuba. It makes perfect sense. NOT!

Sorry, I am an Obama supporter and I don't see this happening. Sometimes change is good especially when what your are doing isn't working. Washington needs to be changed so the people's voices can be heard. I don't agree with everything he does but I like him better than McCain who I don't trust.

Like it makes perfect sense to support a guy who said his daugthers would have an abortion rather than have to "suffer" for a mistake?

To support a guy who would appoint liberal judges to the Federal bench and accelerate the already breathtaking decline of America into hedonism and socialism?

To support a guy whose total experience is 3 years in the Senate, a few as a state legislator in Il and a background as a "community organizer"?

With those qualifications he would have been laughed off the national stage except that he is a fantastic orator (when he has a teleprompter and well written speech) and black.

Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton were also good orators but each had two terms as a Governor with executive experience to back up the oratory.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Repeat after me: I pledge allegience to Allah and Muhammed, and all that they stand for. I have renounced my infidel ways and recognize that Barack Obama is my supreme leader and spokesman for Allah.

Well, obviously, to some people Obama can do no wrong.
But anyway...
Article: Che flag sends 'disturbing' message about Obama

I wonder what these people would say if John McCain had a picture of Benito Mussolini hanging in a campaign office of his?

The Obama supporters are going to be so disappointed and disillusioned if he becomes president.

Of course, most of them say he's going to bring change... but most of the ones I speak with don't know what this change is supposed to actually look like.

Oh well...

Re: Beware Charismatic Men Who Preach 'Change'...

I think the article made a good point though, what kind of change is Obama talking about and how is going to do it?

If it was really Fidel's polically cry at the time "Change" he sure did deliver it, and not in the way those poor folks thought,

You know, do you really think the Germans knew that under Hilter leadership millions of Jews and others would be killed when he first came to power?

I am sorry we just do not know enough about Obama to think nothing bad could happen to us under his leadership, we just dont know--

There is only but so much "change" he can do by himself as President, if he get elected.

The same could be said about McCain-- not knowing enough. Sometimes it's the folks you think you know that end up doing you the dirtiest.

Look at this Bush Admin. Need I say more?
