I'm kind of a newbie here, but I am requesting special prayer tonight. I'm pretty distraught because I learned last night that my banking account seems to have fallen prey to fraud. A very mysterious electronic check transaction was credited against my account for $1550.00. I appreciate all your prayers. Am following all the steps my bank is requiring, but am still pretty shaken. I do a lot of online transactions and am afraid someone hacked my account. We'll see. Have been a faithful, giving steward and cannot afford to lose this money at the moment. Pray that God will give me a quick solution and that this amount can be restored quickly.

I'll certainly will pray for your situation. Be sure to change your account information tomorrow in order to prevent anymore unapproved transactions. Also, be sure that you only provide your account (credit or bank) info on a secured website...one that begins with https:. Lastly, don't EVER give any bank or credit or any personal information via email.

Thank you for your prayers and advice. The bank immediately closed the account last night. I have for a long time paid a lot of bills and done a lot of transactions over the internet, and have a couple of credit cards that we've given our account number to, etc., however, this is a bank we've never dealt with. I should find out tomorrow when my bank's fraud department opens. Anyway, it's reiterated to me the importance of stashing cash on hand, and being more careful. We'll see what caused this nightmare. I wish it was a nightmare!!!! Of course, my husband's out of town, for all this fun. Praise the Lord!

First thing in the morning, you change bank accounts and inform them that you didn't authorize the debit. They can stop it and return your money to you immediately.

Okay--thanks for the advice. I really don't know much about banking/consumers rights. I'm not an idiot--I've worked in law and insurance, but never had to deal with banking stuff much, so thanks. I knew someone out there would know. Blessings.

My family has two bank accounts in two different banks. One has a debit card and is the one we use on the internet and gas stations. We only keep a couple of hundred dollars in it. The other one is where most of the money goes. It is a little trouble but worth only risking a small amount of money. It is almost impossible to keep secure in society today.
You should be able to get all your money back. My son had $700 withdrawn from his account. We immediately notified the bank and we had to go thru a lot of hassle but he did get all his money back.
Max, I once had someone take money out of my account without authorization. Long story short, I'd applied for something that came with 'benefits' if I didn't cancel within a certain period of time. When I tried cancelling, they refused to do so, and took out several debits from my account. They were intercepted and I got all my money back. Thousands of others didn't.
Since you caught it so soon, they should return all your money to you.

Many years ago when banks were issuing "Check Guarantee" cards and debit cards were still on the horizon, the Pizza Hut delivery guy insisted upon seeing my Check Guarantee card. The result was that my $1,000.00 Christmas bonus went to purchasing athletic equipment for inmates at the state prison.
The bank refunded all of my money and I learned to never trust the pizza guy. Praying for you. It is very unsettling.
