Does God Speak To People Today??

I believe God speaks to us through His word and through dreams, but does God speak to people directly? I am highly suspect of holy ghost impressions and of people saying, "God spoke to me". I am on the verge of being a complete skeptic of people that claim to speak to God. Hasn't the word told us all we need to know? How have you heard "the voice of God"?

Yes I have heard the voice of God before, personally, and also in prophetic messages given to me by others.

I'm not sure why such skepticism about people hearing from God.

The gift of Prophecy and Word of Knowledge are spiritual gifts of revelation by which God speaks to his people in the church today, as he has done since New Testament times. Doesn't God say in Acts 2 that in the last days His sons and daughters will prophesy, His young men will see visions, and his old men will dream dreams? And haven't you been in an Apostolic church before and had the Lord speak to his church via tongues and interpretation?

You mentioned being skeptical of "Holy Ghost impressions". Doesn't your pastor get preach his message based on impressions the Holy Ghost has placed upon his heart and mind? Would you even want to sit under a pastor who didn't hear from the Lord?

AMEN to all that you said!

How about when tongues and interpretation or prophecy goes forth in the church and you feel the Spirit of God within you? I always take that to be an indicator that the Spirit in me is confirming the word spoken by my brother or sister. Does that count even though God isn't speaking to me with audible words or putting thoughts in my mind but just letting me feel His anointing.

Can you describe how you heard the voice of God, "personally"?

I do believe that God can speak through toungues and interpretations and through holy ghost inspired sermons. I just doubt people hearing the voice of God though a thought or feeling.

Well, as I pray and meditate on the things of God, He drops a thought into my mind, and then confirms it through the words of a person I respect.

That's why it's called faith!

It was not a feeling. It was a clearly spoken word.
It was not in an audible voice, but it was a clear and unmistakable sentence that the Lord spoke into my mind.

For personal reasons, I'd rather not elaborate further... but yes, I'm sure, with 10,000 % certainty, that this was Him speaking, and not me.

Blessings,
TRF.

Re: Does God Speak To People Today??

Yes God does speak to people today, the real question is are people listening?
I know of an Elder who recently passed away last fall & he prayed hours a day.
There were many times he could be heard in the room praying & it would seem like he was having a two way conversation!

God does speak & if you spend time with him you will learn to discern his voice.

I'm kinda puzzled by what caused Dedicated Mind to start this thread.

God spoke to people in the Old and New Testaments (Adam, Noah, Abraham, David, Hezekiah, Paul, Ananias... to name just a few).

Why would anyone in the church today think that God has stopped speaking to his people? From what I can see, there's no biblical basis for thinking that.

So, what's this all about, DM? Talk to us about the impetus behind this thread.
