Jesus the Jewish Theologian
Jesus the Jewish Theologian
by Dr. Brad H. Young
"Jesus the Jewish Theologian establishes Jesus firmly within the context of first-century Judaism and shows how understanding Jesus' Jewishness is crucial for interpreting the New Testament and for understanding the nature of the Christian faith. Insights from Jewish literature, archeology, and tradition hep modern readers place Jesus within his original context. Particular attention is given to the Jewish roots of Jesus' teaching concerning the Kingdom of God"
I'm about halfway through this book and although in the beginning it is a slow read, and a little dry, as I have read onward, I have come to appreciate the depth of understanding and picture this book has brought to my understanding of the teachings of Jesus.
This is a two thumbs up recommendation.

Re: Jesus the Jewish Theologian
Thanks for the recommendation. I'll put it on my books to buy list.
I just got "Chosen by God" by RC Sproul and "The Evangelical Dictionary of the Bible" from Amazon today.
If you'd like I can send you the list of MUST READ books on OT and Jewish history and customs according to my seminary OT prof.

Re: Jesus the Jewish Theologian
I have Paul the Jewish Theologian, The Parables: Jewish Tradition and Christian Interpretation, Meet the Rabbis: Rabbinic Thought and the Teachings of Jesus - all by Dr. Brad Young; and Our Father Abraham by Dr. Marvin Wilson all sitting on my side table of my favorite chair.
I can't figure which one to go on to next after I finish this one.
