Moving "forward"?????

Hopefully this hasn't been discussed. I am almost thru with the Forward. A buddy of mine gave me his copy and I have had a hard time putting it down.

I wasn't to impressed with the layout. It was all the articles FOR changes then the one long article AGAINST. I wish they would have gone back and forth. Also the FOR stance was divided into separate essay's while the AGAINST was one long huge compilation. It was harder to read IMO.

The FOR side was very thorough in thier statistics. I thought they were represented well although it seemed they all just said the same thing over and over. But they stuck to thier guns.

The AGAINST side played many cards of which some were concerning. They said:

"If a still picture and the name of the church and pastor were flashed on the screen, and it would all stop at this point, there might be little opposition."

"The UPCI's stated position on this matterhas greatly helped ouor pastors as they taught their people to refrain from owning a television"

"Communicating the apostolic distinctives of Jesus Name Baptism, the essentiality of the H.G. and holiness are the only motivation for a television ministry. Would those distinctives attract an audience? Probably not. They are too theological, biblical, doctrinal."

"(They) are assuming we will continue embracing Internet usage......."

any thoughts?

Just saying that after reading the Forward and the AGAINST side I am loosing interest in the things that UC's promote on many fronts.

Its not about churches or people its about the Big Boys club and who can out politic the other. Its about peer pressure and the preacher down the street. Look at how infiltrated TV is in the congregation.

In reference to your divorce thread I'm finding more irreconcilable differences.

That's where I am at, Bro. It's becoming harder and harder to find reasons to be even loosely tied to all of this. It's like an anchor tied around the neck in the middle of a big stormy ocean. I'm glad you caught the intended purpose of the thread.

The anti resolution 6 crowd is the MoveOn.org of the upci. Distortions even untruths have been proprogated and have been successfully debunked. Now the last resort is using scare tactics. They can't even be completely honest in their scare tactics.

It's time I reintroduce the hypocrisy as written in the upci manual as late as 2005. There is no logical or reasonable excuse to leave one out of the outreach mix. Put this info in the forward like this and ask What's wrong with this picture? Both sections say the same thing, but one is frowned upon and the other is embraced. Can't call that conservatism. Call it legalism... Any Caiphas's out there want to tackle this one? I doubt it.

Quote:
Computers and the Internet - Adopted by the General Board in 1998.
pg. 151 of the 2005 UPCI Manual.
(Emphasis mine)

One of the new technologies that has been introduced to society in recent years is known as the Internet. This innovation literally bring the entire spectrum of information available in the world into any computer screen. While much of this information is wholesome and useful, a great amount is lewd, pornographic, or dangerous. In addition, the Internet provides a forum for direct interpersonal relationships via "chat rooms" and "e-mails." Many people have been unwittingly snared into corruption by participating in these forums.

The UPCI recognizes the widespread use of the Internet among our people in the workplace and in the home may not be reversed. At the same time, the very real dangers presented must not be ignored. (It goes on to implement policies to "monitor the access and use of the Internet."

Holiness And Television Programs pg. 158 2005 UPCI Manual (emphasis mine)

It is very evident that spirituality and holiness are deeply entwined together. The scriptures teach that carnality is enmity toward God. The use of media must therefore be considered so that we do not take the beautiful truths of God into areas that will contribute to the downfall of a child of God.

The use of television in the home has become a serious concern to parents, teachers, sociologists, politicians, and religious leaders. Statistically, evidence indicates that the increase in violence, sexual immorality, and destruction of the family is in part caused by the display of these evils on television. We must strive always for a spiritual position in our living, and wisely, the United Pentecostal Church International has warned its members of the evils displayed on television programs and admonished them not to have television sets in their homes for the sake of their spiritual welfare.

My thoughts are that television is already a fact of life in the UPC. Pastors have it. Certainly a large number of saints have it. Board members have it. SS teachers have it. Youth leaders have it. Outreach directors have it and so do music ministry leaders.

Have to learn to deal with it. Have to learn to control it. Have to learn how to use it and make an avenue of reaching out to the lost with the Gospel if one has that desire.

As far as it being a tool of evangelism it is to a certain extent. Not the most effective as far as I'm concerned but it's one more method along with all the others.

I don't think that an affirming vote for Res. 6 says in any way shape or form that an OK or a *thumbs up* is being given to the medium being a positive influence, because for the most part it is not a good influence. The promotion of ungodliness and wickedness is an onslaught on my eyes and ears for the most part..

I understand the concerns and the reluctance to vote for the Resolution, but the fact is it's already a fact. Like it or not. Have to deal with that.
