The Sin of Sodom

We hear about the sin of Sodom. We even have a term "sodomy" to define it.

What does God say the sin of Sodom is:

48 As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, your sister Sodom and her daughters never did what you and your daughters have done.

49 Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50 They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

Ezekiel 16:48-50

Wow. Sodom could be compared to a lot of things common accepted practice in our day!

Hmm... arrogant overfed unconcerned.... not helping the poor and needy....

Well... I just won't say it, but lots of things come to my mind when I look at those words....

RW... gotta picture?

Re: The Sin of Sodom

Eze 16:50 They were haughty and practiced abominable deeds before me. Therefore when I saw it I removed them.

Eze 16:58 You must bear your punishment for your obscene conduct and your abominable practices, declares the LORD.

Wonder what that abomination was....

2Pe 2:6 and if he turned to ashes the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah when he condemned them to destruction,23 having appointed24 them to serve as an example25 to future generations of the ungodly,26
2Pe 2:7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man in anguish over the debauched lifestyle of lawless27 men,28
2Pe 2:8 (for while he lived among them day after day, that righteous man was tormented in his righteous soul29 by the lawless deeds he saw and heard30 )

NET Jud 1:7 So also33 Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighboring towns,34 since they indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire35 in a way similar to36 these angels,37 are now displayed as an example by suffering the punishment of eternal fire.

ESV Jud 1:7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Their homosexuality was one of several sins. It is referred to as an abomination. But their gluttony and disregard for others were also sins.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 tells of some stuff the saints at Corinth had been saved from. Homosexuality is just one of several sins listed there.
"9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God."

I don't see anyone here justifying those other sins, do you? What is your point? Nobody said homosexual sins are the only sins

Well, we usually justify our gluttony and call it "fellowship" and we justify our lack of feeding and clothing the poor because "they are sinners and not in the truth" and saying that if they would "obey the truth" then God would meet all their other needs."

Many of us who call ourselves Apostolic or Pentecostal or Holiness or Charismatic or whatever label we prefer have set up our own lists of mortal and venial sins like the Roman Catholics have been known to do.

That's right. For some motorcycles are an terrible sin and so are black leather jackets. Other figure TV's are REALLY BAD, but spend every evening in front of their computer screen.

The sad part: it's all "works", pure legalism.
