Why is it that the "cut" of a robe was enough to separate gender in biblical times, but the "cut" of trousers is not enough to separate gender in modern times... and if we go down the modesty path here, then neither men nor women should wear pants. Should not men and women be equally modest?

Seems reasonable and logical, but since when is religion reasonable and logical. I personally believe this subject is out of bounds for the pulpit to be engaged in, beyond preaching modesty. Then leave it to the Holy Spirit and the wisdom of believers to receive truth and interpret it in their own lives. The pulpit should focus on the weightier matters of the gospel, the ministry of reconciliation, according to the Apostle Paul.

When it comes to the modesty issue, pants simply are NOT as modest as a skirt - there's no way around that. They just are not unless a tunic like top is worn long enough to cover the groin and hips area.
But then like I've said for years now if you're going to use the "modesty" point to condemn pants then men shouldn't be wearing them either.
It's problematic.
I still prefer skirts over pants. I like the distinction between feminine and masculine and since men in our culture do NOT wear skirts it is a definitive distinction between the genders.
Where I work the women wear pants almost exclusively and have commented about the fact I wear skirts and don't I find it hard to work, lift and carry dressed like that. LOL.
I just don't understand it. I don't understand why they wouldn't like at least to change it up occasionally and wear a skirt.
Anyhow..... I'm just rambling so I'll "split" the scene here.

That's the approach our family takes also. As to men being more modest in robes or tunics.... that practice is still developing...
