Obama Supporter: How Do You Look Self in Mirror?
The criticism from the Obama crowd is "George W. Bush gave us this deficit and economy." I will agree that the Bush White House and GOP-led Congress failed to control spending during their six years of total control of the executive and the legislative branches. W never vetoed one single bill that came from the Congress. He allowed deficits to gorw and did not exercise conservative fiscal policy. I went online and criticized him often for that, I wrote the RNC Chairman Ken Melman a letter voicing my displeasure. However the last two years of W's presidency was with a Democratic controlled House. The recession began in 2007 according to economists so partial blame has to lay at the feet of the Dems in Congress too.
But how can you look yourself in the mirror, how does BO look himself in the mirror, how does anyone look themselves in the mirror that blames Bush for the state of the Union when BO and the Dems took total control while proposing deficit spending on a scale that dwarfs all other former presidencies combined? You blame Bush but then take what he did and do exactly what he did only 1,000 times worse.
Does that make any sense to you?
You cannot spend your way out of debt! If the economy hasn't improved by November, will you be willing to vote for candidates that campaign on responsible fiscal policy? Cut spending significantly, cut out pork projects, cut out wasteful programs, simplify government and make it streamlined and effecient. And for goodness sake, give breaks to small businesses and the companies that create jobs!
You cant blame Bush and praise BO at the same time unless you are completely partisan and it doesnt matter how one governs---its all about ideology.

Re: Obama Supporter: How Do You Look Self in Mirro
It's a slow day in a little East Texas town. The sun is beating down, and the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.....
On this particular day a rich tourist from back east is driving through town. He stops at the motel and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend the night.
As soon as the man walks upstairs, the owner grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.
The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to the pig farmer.
The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.
The guy at the Farmer's Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her "services" on credit.
The hooker rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the hotel owner.
The hotel proprietor then places the $100 back on the counter so the rich traveler will not suspect anything.
At that moment the traveler comes down the stairs, picks up the $100 bill, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town.
No one produced anything. No one earned anything.
However, the whole town is now out of debt and now looks to the future with a lot more optimism.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the United States Government is conducting business today.

It's the same spending that pulled our country back from another Great Depression.
Your argument can't beat our experience! (Sounds familiar?)
Our country did not sink any further than what it did because of quick action by the Federal Governent.

In 2008, George W. Bush ran a deficit of $485 billion. At the end of the fiscal year, Oct.1, 2008, it had gone up by another $100 billion. This was due to increased recession related spending and depressed revenues. So it was $600 billion. That was the real Bush deficit.
When the fiscal crisis hit, Bush pushed TARP in the final months of his presidency. That cost - $700 billion. Under the federal budget rules, a loan and a grant are treated the same. So the $700 billion pushed the deficit -- officially -- up to $1.3 trillion. But not really. The $700 billion was a short-term loan, and $500 billion of it has already been repaid.
So what was the real deficit Obama inherited? The $600 billion deficit Bush was running plus the $200 billion of TARP money that probably won't be repaid (mainly AIG and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac). That totals $800 billion. That was the real deficit Obama inherited.
Then ... he added $300 billion in his stimulus package, bringing the deficit to $1.1 trillion. And falling revenues and other increased welfare spending pushed it up to $1.4 trillion.
So, effectively, Obama came close to doubling the deficit.

Re: Obama Supporter: How Do You Look Self in Mirro
Jermyn, The Great Depression lasted so long BECAUSE of government intervention. Unemployment INCREASED under FDR. He spent 10% of the GDP. The Depression didn't end until WWII. Mobilization changed that b/c of the war. BO is proposing to spend 25% of GDP! Why has unemployment increased under BO when he spent stimulus money to "create" jobs? Where are those infrastructure, shovel-ready jobs?
Jermyn, you are smarter than this. How do you get out of debt, do you personally try to spend more than you make to get out of debt? Its simple economics 101. What applies to you personally applies to our nation. The real danger is we are going to devalue the American brand so badly that one day this house of cards will come crashing down and we will have more than a Great Depression on our hands.

Maybe it did maybe it didn't. The bottom line is that the Great Depression ended either with the help of or despite of government intervention. Either way, if we got out of the great depression with all the government programs and spending in that time, then we can get out of whatever economic rut we are in even with all the government is spending now.
If the spending made is get out of it slower, at least we know we got out of it even with the spending. But if the spending made us get out of it faster, then who knows what would happen if all the spending was suddenly stopped.

This is what's scary about you ideologues: you aren't willing to look at simple facts. Its all about having your guy and party in power regardless of the consequences.
You assume that we can spend endlessly and that there is no consequence. FDR implemented massive government expansion in a time when government was considerably small compared with today. We have had 75 years of big government and we are stretched to the maximum. In 1932, this kind of spending was new and we had much lower taxes and spending as a percentage of GDP. Social Security was new, the New Deal was new, the work programs were new, subsidies were new. Since we have added more and more govt programs and spending until we are way beyond our means. The Soviet Union lasted 70 years before folding. We have tried socialism for the past 75 and the bottom of the well is near. WWII bailed us out of the last depression. I don't want to have WWIII to do it again.
You BO followers are scary. Its this kind of blind leading the blind that will put America in the ditch. God help us.
