Do Your Kids Dress Like Bankers?
I'm just wondering. When your teenage boys go to youth convention, do they dress like bankers?
Why do we make our kids dress like that for conventions and camps?
Silliness!
I think they'd have better attendance if they advertised convention as dress casual.
Dumb thing is, we expect them to dress that way at summer camp as well.
It's 95-100 degrees in the summer, and we still expect our kids to wear suits, ties and dress shoes.
I don't get it.

Tradition. I did it that way so you are too.

I'll have you to know, Baron, that I LIKE dressing up. I look for excuses to wear fabulous clothes!!! Recently our pastor gave us permission to be slightly more casual on Sunday mornings--and I plan to ignore it completely. I'm a girly girl, and wearing pretty dresses and heels just plain ol' makes me happy!
My two daughters are complete opposites--the youngest has always liked to wear frilly clothes, but the oldest shuns all forms of ruffles and lace. Still, of late, Hannah has taken to wearing heels and dressing up in a sleek, classy style (still with no lace or frills).
People are different--some like to dress up, some don't. I think it's nice to dress up and be clean and shiny when we go to church--but I hope no one is so silly to believe it is a requirement. It would be just as silly a conclusion to label those who dress up as shallow or judgmental because they choose dressier clothing.
For that matter, I've seen the casual dressers criticize those who dress to the nines as being vain, and dressy dressers criticize those who go casual as not taking God seriously. Neither criticism is necessary or accurate.
Bottom line: This is such an unimportant issue, that it should be left to individuals and families with no harsh criticism in either direction.

Yep! Me, too! I own about 30 pairs of heels, and the collection continues to grow! I also love beautiful clothes.
And I don't think it kills my teen boys to wear suits. Doesn't hurt them to spiff up once a week. They slop around in jeans with holes in them the rest of the week.
But of course, once again, it has nothing to do with what God requires or even expects. It's just our current custom.

Well, I'm not a girly girl as I'm more comfortable in a suit, but I do like dressing up! And do look for occasion to do that. I love when we are driving to church and my husband says, "You know, you are still a nice looking woman."

My daughter is an immaculate dresser and sets the atmosphere for the other girls to stop dressing like slobs. Lord, the world is dressing like slobs these days! I hate it!

Very silly, indeed! Most of the boys and girls I know LOVE to dress up for camp and other functions.

Amen! I agree, but I have noticed that when a women doesn't take particular care of her dress and hair, she is unhappy about something.

Amen! It's not a standard, it's an individual choice.

That's the way Jesus and the Apostles dressed
so we have to dress that way too.
Anything less is disrespectful to the House of God
and is unholy and on a slippery slope.

Seriously?
Do you really think folks view that as a standard, and a tradition?
