Not Enough Relationship Taught
I Will Never Forget The First Time I Was Preaching In My Home Church, And I Said During My Message You Need To Have A Personal
Relationship With Jesus.......lots Of Silence, More Silence.
All They Could Think Of Was...he's Changing His Doctrine.
I Was Not The Pastor, But One Of The Associate Pastors. All I Was Trying To Say Was We Need To Be More In Love With Jesus.
All That To Say This.
The Only Real Problem I Have Seen Through The Years, Is That We Really Have Never (upc) Taught Enough On Relationship With Jesus.
Preach A Message....get Them In The Altar....shake Them....holler In
Thier Ear, And Make Sure They Speak In Tongues.
And Thats The End. And There You Have A Really Shallow Christian.
Oh Yea. And If They Don't Last. They Didn't Get A Real Good Case Of The Holy Ghost!!
Come On Guys, Lets Teach People How To Make It.

Yes sir...
When you preach relationship one feels compelled to spend more time explaining that you're not "letting go of anything" etc than getting the actual message across.
That whole relationship thing must sound a little charismatic to folks.

Funny you would say that, Digging. A preacher told me that the reason some preached so hard was because if you focused too much on "love" you would be labeled a "charismatic"! Then if labeled a "charismatic" you would be ostracized. LOL

Hmmm... I guess I just see how much more and more I am blessed each day! Our pastor teaches on these things regularly! I know I brag on our church so much on here but I see more and more that I have reason to!
These things are key but not every pastor does not preach these things... I will say you will likely not get much response on your thread tho... we really have a dislike for pastor bashing threads around these parts... it hits nerve with a lot on here... FYI

That's weird. EVERY upc church I have been in I have heard it preached very strongly that one MUST have a personal, individual relationship with the Lord.
I can't think of any single apostolic/oneness church I have ever been to that this was not a major doctrine held forth.
